Unfortunately I read Richard's response first. So when the alleged vocal sample under scrutiny came in, it sounded like she/it was saying "Quaaack quaaaack quaaack". You get a free 2nd opinion from my end, as my roomate was wandering around and asked wtf I was listening to, quack quack?

We agree with Richard on the vocal sample. Personal preference(s), yadda yadda.

The harder part, I guess is offering thoughts on what to maybe do with it instead?

I think, Vocal sample at 00:24 is nice. This seemed like typical lead-in technique to the actual vocal lyrics. Which is kinda what I was expecting as a listener. Is there a full lyrical melody associated with that snippet? or is just a snippet...?

Vocal samples at 00:37 and 00:39 are nice too. Reminds me of the vocal snippets used frequently in chillstep, to add to that light, cheery vibe.

The first sample in conjunction with the 2nd could probably make for nice vocal snippet interplay if used a little closer together, in conjunction with the beat.

Not sure on the processing for the quack quack vocal sample. I'm guessing disco-style flanger to get it match up with the funky guitar riff at 1:18? Maybe ease up on it a bit? Or just stick with clean vocal snippets.

Cheers man lol - this may require me to either modify this guitar (and FX on it) or go for some completely different sounds

There is tones of elements/sounds I can use as replacement for this quaccck, quaacccckkkk lol lol lol sound lol.

Appreciate man,

Darek

Interesting work Richard, not as cleaver as some of your other productions but quality and creativity it appreciated - still not set on your kick but is mostly personal thing lol - also your bass is off-beat or just side-chain gives me this impression?

Cheers,

Darek

Sounds more like an oriental riff bassline at 1:49 to me. But I still dig it.

I think the guitar sound around 2:00 might benefit from a shorter end-phrase note with a longer release, instead of holding down the note, shorten it up, and automate a longer release for the section being held, or use re-verb if messing with the release isn't possible. 2:11 -> 2:13'ish for example.

Could even probably have it release into the breakdown. The sidechain plus the released decay should give a cool breakdown effect.

The transition into that middle-eastern'ish vibe with the vocals towards the end was a bit jarring for me...

Other than that, pretty cool overall though. I liked it.

Yes I moved the bass to be slightly off-time as I like that vibe of late, not too locked down and quantized

Kick is too dry / dull you think?

I think I need to add some 80's Fashwave style pads through this track?

Maybe a cluck-cluck?

Terran you're comments on the Duck quack & your room mate wandering about really made me chuckle

Still love this track dude. Surprised it didn't get signed. It is very generic sounding for that London 2000-ish era, IN A VERY GOOD SENSE (in the same way the new 80's Fashwave is generic but often brilliant and superbly executed)

The sounds, mix and everything are on point.

Would love to borrow some of your vocals.......
I never manage to find good singers for free and I don't want go paying for them up-front

I wonder about;

+ Is kick too wooden / big
+ Do I need to layer the bass / other synths a bit more (thing is I love techno type tracks with not much melody in the drops as I feel they hit really well)

+ That sustained vocal in the drop - I think it's too quiet?

I have to just sort outro transitions btw

You really should contact Chill channel on SiriusXM ( https://www.facebook.com/siriusxmchill/) - they have this "Chill After Hours" section which would be excellent for your track Chris.

Cheers,

Darek

IMHO yes it is but this is only my taste lol - also can you look at your bass and see if you can run it the same way like your arp mid level bass if you know hat I mean (I think you could time those sequence nicely together to have more punchy effect)

Cheers,

Darek

Which of those two version of the same production is most appealing to you:

1. Vocal version but those are only a short verses and repeated few time for space reservation - you can have a sense of style of this vocal which to me is really interesting and adding a spark to this track.

2. Instrumental version

Instrumental is a bit easy for release as you own 100% royalties lol but vocal one add some attractiveness to this production.

Which one do you like the most?
