I find it highly offensive that you think humans are in any way related to monkeys. I didn't COME FROM A MONKEY.

Speaking of creation. Im quite a geek and i love watching documentaries about space, physics, nature...
So in the last few days i watched a BBC series "Wonders of the universe" and Discoveries "Trough the wormhole" (narrated by Morgan fucking Freeman!) and it shows that the discovery ch one was made with an american audience in mind since the very fisrt episode of the series asks "Is there a creator" and the conclusion at the end is "Yes, quite likely, in fact almost definitely since our world seems so perfect). Thats a discovery channel not discovery institute documentary (i checked ) so it does leave you with a sour taste in the mouth. In contrast, the BBC series, no mention of god which is as it should be of course. No need to put magic in my science. Guess the only good thing on discovery are mythbusters after all, because they at least blow shit up.

It's funny when people say they didn't evolve from monkeys, mainly because it's true but not for the reason they think. Common ancestor and all that jazz.
EDIT - Also, wtf is up with imageshack? WHY ARE ALL THE FUCKING LINKS DYING!?

Though thats a very far removed common ancestor...people like that find it hard to believe that we have anything in common with apes, let alone monkeys...then again people who proclaim that probably dont know the difference between apes and monkeys.

It'd be too much to expect them to say "I didn't evolve from an ape-like creature that was a common ancestor between monkeys and us" because such understanding would require a firm grasp of evolutionary theory, which they usually lack.
I never understood why anyone would object to that until I started hanging out with an evangelical Christian. One day we were chatting and she was like:
"Wait, do you believe in evolution?"
"We've got a pretty reliable amount of data going for it, so it's reasonable to say it's very likely. Why?"
"I didn't come from an amoeba!"
I let the conversation die at that point

They recycle links after a while and, recently, only registered users can access their pictures.
I don't understand why they're killing the only thing they do.

The proper response to that is "I dont believe it, I understand it and acknowledge that its the best and most complete explanation, based on all the evidence gathered in the last 150 years for the great diversity of life we see today."

I think the idea we 'come from something' which isn't human is hard to conceptualise, but its just because these people are incapable of abstract rational thought...
They can't figure out when it's said 'you have a shared ancestor with primates' we don't mean 'your dad's brother is a monkey'... so they reply "umm hello, I've always been a human being, and so was my dad, and my grandpa! THERE!! PROVED!! Evolution is false!"
