This one's probably my favorite piece from the score:

*SPOILERS*

There were at least a couple of scenes I really disliked, which deviated from the whole retro feeling of the movie: the scene where the guy gets flung back in the beach, and the scene with one of the "followers" throwing electrical equipment at the protagonist in the pool. Both seemed very out of place and rather artificial with the whole retro style, and all. The first scene with the dead girl was quite brutal and had me anticipating some serious shit, but unfortunately it then plods along. Still and all, not bad and definitely worth a watch.

Yeah this movie was pretty slow....it felt like a lot of scenes could have been so much more. it wasn't terrible by any means, but just seemed to be lacking....more?

Re-watched Run Lola Run, as they played it on cable today.

Love this tune from the soundtrack:

Also watched an old Oliver Stone movie last night - Talk Radio (1988). Good stuff - 7/10.

Anyone see digging up the marrow, apparently the monsters look pretty original and intimidating imo, I know its not sundance or rarely published material but its little mainstream, j/w if its ok to watch. I know its def better than unfriended lol.

It's a rare breed, but Sneakers (1992) and One Point O (2004) comes to mind. I guess it depends on what you define as cybercrime/hacker movies.

Whoa, I really liked Ex Machina. What really impressed me was the musical score and its use in the movie. And the questions I'm currently pondering in my head after having watched it.

*edit: And I just saw 12 Monkeys for the first time today. That was also an awesome movie. God I love sci-fi lol.

I liked the story and idea behind Ex Machina, the design, set and locations (yes biased because it's pretty much where I live/grew up) were also beautiful.

SPOILERS: What annoyed me was the execution of it; how the character "Nathan" was too much of an antagonist while also driving it home with the story. The ending would have been much less predictive if you got to like him instead of the movie forcing you not to. The movie literally yells "you have to see this character as a bad guy because plot twist in the end."

This trying to be clever to trick the audience is something that happens too often in movies these days. When you've seen it a couple of times you easily recognize it and it just becomes utterly transparent. When the twist comes you kind of feel cheated.
/SPOILERS

I still recommend the movie, it was interesting and good on the eyes and ears.

MORE SPOILERS: I do feel you missed the point somewhat here. You are supposed to think that Nathan is a bastard because that's what Caleb is being manipulated to believe, and the story is told from Caleb's perspective. The driving force of the story is the rising tension, the sense of something sinister afoot. If Caleb had no suspicions or fears about Nathan he would just speak openly to him about Ava's behaviour.

My problem was not that Nathan was painted as a bad guy, but that the film never really explores his darker side. For example: what exactly does he do to Ava to make her hate him? There are vague suggestions, but not enough is revealed to paint her climactic actions in a clear light. Is it pure survival, or is it also revenge?
