the flat screen being off center is hard on the eyes. The lamp on the monitor is cute.
You should go to Ikea and spend a few hundred to make things nice and tidy. ANd of course the room still needs treating.

that korg synth looks like it was ripped out of a cockpit.

Getting used to the TV was a pain but it's no problem now. Because of where my bed is, it would be a much bigger pain in the ass if I moved it, although I could move the desk now. Before, all my DJ gear was sitting on a bigger desk that required the amount of room you see over there. I threw that away in favor of building a customized "booth" - I've got a large high quality logo on the way that will go on the front of the table. Should look good and even though I don't anticipate playing anywhere anytime soon (I live in Nashville, Trance is a foreign word here,) I'd still like to have a personal booth as I HATE (H-A-T-E) club gear. In particular the lack of proper monitoring. I've walked out on shows before when I was told there would be monitors and then there wasn't. I just don't do the headphone thing. Never have in 10+ years, never will.

Any suggestions on room acoustic treatment? I do not understand room acoustics very well so I'm not quite sure what needs to be moved where and what types of material need to go where. I know my monitors are probably a bit too close to the wall but everything else seems to sound great, but I have nothing to reference that too so maybe if I did some treatment a light bulb would come on.

well now that you have a mic, you can take an impulse response of the room at the place you are sitting. THat will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

if it is a small room , a few acoustic panels behind the speakers and at reflection points on the side walls and some bass traps to keep the bass in check ( bass generally louder if speakers are close to the wall) should do the trick.

I don't really know enough to give you specifics. The speakers do seem a little large to be so close but perhaps that isn't an issue with yours. I would also recommend some stands for the monitors.

Again I tend to be a little anal and spend money on things that usual make me feel better in the room. My most important piece of equipment is a nice chair.

It's not a bad idea per say but an impulse response is kind of towards the very latter end of priorities and there's a lot of things I can see, without an impulse repsonse, that need fixing first.

The first one is the HS80's are big speakers that put our a good representation of low end (IMO the best monitors at that price point) but they boom in small spaces and give an innacurrate bass response when too close to walls. That's the first thing you need to fix and they look like they aren't far enough apart so you you're having to over toe them in which results in seating too close. Auralex pads are good for those when used on a desk surface.

I would go in to this and the room treatment in way more detail but don't really want to clog this thread so shoot me an email and'll be more than happy to help

funny comments about the radias. it does have that futuristic look and is a very intimidating synth. at least to me it was and still is. i'm not here to say it's great because it's my only true hardware synth, so even if i knew everything about it my opinion would be completely irrelevant as I have nothing to reference it to.

I can say one thing. It sure can do a whole lot. I learn several things every time I turn it on and I've combed the manual quite a bit. It can do so many damn things. Some seem useless, others are rather cool. For the money, I don't see how it would be a bad buy.

Anyway, I have several people tell me that my studio monitors were completely misplaced. I have since moved them as far away and out as possible and aimed to me. Right now the walls behind the left one is about 5 feet and the right one rear is facing an entire open door, so I think that part may be taken of. They are still only 2 feet each from my head though (I have been using my yard stick like mad, lol), although they were much closer before. People have said they need to be at least 8 feet away though. That pisses me off quite a bit as I told they were near field monitors.

FYI, they sound much better where they are now. In particular the bass and the stereo image.

i think 8 feet is a little excessive. 3 feet should be enough. What did you use to mount your flat screen tv. I have these cheep walls (the ones you can punch thru) and i'm afraid they won't support it.

Here is a guide for studio monitor placement. Basically, you want an equilateral triangle between the monitors and the listening position.
