Sweet vid! The enormity of everything (venue, sound, lighting, crowd) is pretty stunning.

In other news, this Sat'day we'll be laying out a classic Chicago and Detroit centred smackdown in a room about 1/800th the size of the one in Kate's video. 5 hours back to back, all vinyl, all night, baby - no frills, just good music.

Kate, what would you say the ratio of vinyl to digital DJs is in the circles you run in and at the events you attend? I'm guessing it's easier to transport wax around the EU, especially since a lot of travel's done by rail or automobile...

Hard to say really... some DJs like Rush and Steve Rachmad still seem to play mainly records and there are also many others like Murphy who continue to play a lot of vinyl but also typically some digital tracks during their sets as well (vinyl-only techno DJs are a dying breed). Others like Dave Clarke have basically abandoned playing vinyl altogether quite some time ago. Definitely at many clubs I went to though since moving here, especially in Germany (Tresor, U60311 etc) I didn't recall seeing CDJs in the booth, just turntables. Having said that, at least 3 or 4 record stores we used to check out on occasion here in Amsterdam have closed in the past year or so, I am not all that surprised.

A bit disheartening as well that a growing number of (formerly vinyl) labels have shifted to digital-only format now which kinda sucks... no wonder I had been missing out on a lot of H-Prod stuff in recent years (Cari's label).

Rachmad was a guest on White Noise not too long ago and Clarke asked him what her perfers - vinyl vs. digital. It was funny to hear Rachmad barely even talk about digital, yet was like a kid in a candy (record) store when talking about finding obscure or good but unknown vinyl. He's indeed a purist.

I can't comment specifically on this release, but the other day I had a chat with DJ Shankar (one half of Aerodrömme) and I have to say that I'm really impressed by the tunes he sent my way (very good driving minimal tracks (some complimented by a touch of prog)).

Fuck, i love patrick dsp's style and he resided in toronto before moving to germany! Multi-talented artist who is a one man show and definitely inspiring to those who want to pursue a career in the music industry.

Kate and I were at Awakenings last night for the Drumcode night (Paul Ritch, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Advent+Industrialyser)

The night blew me away. I haven't heard Beyer play like that in years

Keep watching www.awakenings.nl for sets and more videos if you want.

Tonight is Awakenings night 2 with Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Len Faki

I'm getting too old for this shit
