Thanks for posting this!

This set is utterly devastating, easily one of the best I've heard in a while. If half the mnml mstrbtn out there was as well-programmed and interesting as this, I'd be going out a lot more often.

I agree, giving this a proper listen to today and really enjoying it. Nice mix of styles that flows well.

On a semi-related note: Mike Lambert needs to play out around Toronto more often, he seems to be flying under the radar in the Toronto scene (he's part of the sumkidz crew, not the platform/bok/milk-run/milkrun and the like) and really enjoyed him the times I've seen him.

Had me cursing the current 'popular' techno in Toronto a bit, and sucked that the last time I saw him was after the Chameleon Project at a bar with normal hours and closed up by 2:30 - me and my friend were the only two people left dancing in a pretty empty bar.

From the hoppner interview:

Who are a few of your favorite DJs and why?

I just played with Dixon at our monthly MyMy party and he is the mack, really. Everything he plays is in tune, he’s got an incredible flow and is very versatile. Some of the stuff he plays is a bit too sweet for me, but he always manages to present it in such a convincing way, I end up liking those tracks very much. One DJ who really surprised me a lot was Shonky. I heard him for the first time and unlike his own production, he played a very energetic set of chunky, pumping, percussive and warm house music. Really blew me away. I also like Efdemin a lot. He’s not only a good friend, but also one of the most consistent DJs I know. Margaret Dygas can be amazing, too. She is on a more minimal tip and her mixing is very creative. She drives crowds crazy and you never know exactly why, because she is so subtle.
---------

Can I add Shonky to the DJ's I'd love to see in Toronto but have never been here list? Now and then he can get a bit too much on the housey-side, but all around the mixes I've found of his have always knocked my socks off and gotten lots of replay from me. He can transition from minimal, to techno, to house and even a hint of 'tribally circuit vibe' here and there and back in a way that gets the ass shaking and keeps the set interesting.

I'm finding that with the exception of Live-PAs, DJ sets that stick too firmly to one sub-genre/genre are not holding my interest like they used to.

Oh, and we've also found a potential new space for Pivot events. It's central, right on a 24-hour streetcar line at a major intersection that's outside of the "entertainment" swamp, intimate, with a well-stocked bar and has decent sound (though they need to invest in a sub to warm the room up a bit).

If anyone wants the skinny on the regular, just bookmark FU or email us at PivotTechno@gmail.com to get on our old-fashioned mail list.

What, six straight hours of the same, loping, bloopy minimal sounds don't hold your attention?

And what's with that grainy, ascending/descending whoosh that seems to constitute the buildup in every 2nd or 3rd minimal track I hear? Is it an ableton effects preset or something?

Just askin', is all.

I believe it was at Circa late last year but I'm not 100% percent. Could have been early this year...
