There is no way the Devils make the dance this year, even if they are probably one of the hotter teams in the nhl. A day late,a buck short imo. It is too bad because they have a good team, a great coach, and would probably do more damage in the post season than any of the other bottom seeds.
I'm not sure. I think it'll be up to how well he thinks he can perform next year. Some athletes are better than others at determining the "right" time to retire. I would think the only reason he'd stay is if he thought they had a legitimate shot at the cup next year, which is definitely a possibility.

It is a delicate situation, and it will be for sure a very interesting thing to watch come the off season. This whole off season will be pretty good, because even if this year's draft is among the weakest in a long time in terms of talent, the free agent market is going to be bristling with some pretty good talent.

Hopefully Buffalo can manage to get a good player or two for longer than one year

The reason Buffalo has trouble attracting free agents in my opinion are due to a few things.
- The market (Buffalo isn't a horrible city, but more people would rather not live there than would.)
- The revolving door that is the Sabres prospect situation. Other than Miller, the Sabres have this horrible habit of developing these really good young guys only to ship them out and have them playing their prime years with another team.
- Security. The Sabres start a rebuild every 2 years it seems. Besides the money factor, free agents tend to want to go were there is a shot to win. I'm not saying that the Sabres don't want to win, but some of the moves management seems to always make say otherwise. Players take this kind of thing into consideration. I know, because when we where awful we couldn't get free agents either.
I'm wondering if making the playoffs will save Lindy's job. One of the best coaches in the NHL for sure, but the Sabres need a new outlook i think.

I agree with most of that. Gerbe does have potential (despite being a midget). It seems like this has been the trend of the Sabres for awhile now, and I'm surprised they still have Vanek. It's pretty sad when the biggest free-agent we've gotten in the past couple years is Craig Rivet

Rivet was a good hockey player. It amazes me that we were able to get Josh Gorges for him in the trade with the Sharks. People were crying about that at the time, but oh man did we ever win that trade.
Buffalo can get free agents, but based on the reasons of my previous post they are going to have to offer very long term front loaded contracts for much more than market value. I don't think they will do that, you guys don't need shitty Scott Gomez style contracts to get better. (other than the Rick Dipietro contract, it is by far the worst one in the nhl.)

Yeah, "was" being the key word. He went from having a C on his sweater to the AHL in just one year lol

I'll take that back, the Yashin contract is the worst in the NHL. At least DiPietro got his face broken for our lolling pleasure.
Players get old man, we have a few geezers too, especially on our blue line.

Yeah I'm just saying that if that was the best they can do, we're in trouble.
