Alan-M Moog Slim & Little Phatty Alan-M Trance / EDM Soundset Rev1 Demo!

A few (too many) years in the making, but this project is finally in the books! 100 patches for the Moog Slim or Little Phatty, very excited about this one and genuinely impressed at how capable a simple mono synth can be.

Oooh that sounds tasty.

I had a Sub Phatty for a while but didn't get on with the menu diving. This PROVES I need another Moog in my life

The menu diving isn’t too bad, just for “advanced preset” which is filter pole, glide type, envelope behavior, and the extra mod sources and destinations.

But damn am I glad to call it done, for the past few years every time I thought about starting a new track my next thought was “should finish that moog bank first”, fuck. That led to not even turning on the moog or starting Cubase for six-nine month spans, several times. But I am really happy with the result, sounds awesome.

I've had mine for five years and I think even still there isn't a better analog mono for the money, these have the Voyager filter and go for like $500 USD. The knobs/pots also have great visual feedback, similar to the Nord Lead 3.

You have just described my life

I would pick up a slim/little if I saw one for decent money, there are really good software editors out there too (I know, I know).

The treble sounds very undynamic in this synth, might as well use a softsynth. I took a gander at some other demos of this synth, the lower-mids and bass sounds pretty nice though.

Yeah it doesn't do trance as good as a Nord or Access but imo It can excel in other areas like synth wave, minimal and techno. Alan is very versatile when it comes to presets, just give em his cat and with a couple oscillators and filters to go with that and you got yourself a trance bank..

My point is it does trance as well as anything when its smashed with compression, flat as a board. Insert into mix and go.

When a synth is in the mix with five other instruments and used well, it barely matters. I think something like the moog is nice when it can be the star. Check out this oldie, the slim phatty would do a perfect job at replicating the bassline.

Could a VSTi handle the finer points of an analog saw pluck bassline?

But I would definitely agree that it's not a bright synth, I didn't EQ the demo much at all. Just cut the bass on some of the leads to help with mix compression.

What I find def noticeable on hardware is just rotating the lowpass 24db filter left to right or vice versa and you hear the smoothness that soft synths dont have, this is more like immediate sounding in your ears.

When it comes to digital oscillators vs soft synths playing with filter bypassed by itself like initial patch Its much more difficult for me to tell I bet some of you could but not me.
