While we're on the US bashing train...

God the news coming out of their lately has been depressing. The more I learn the more ridiculous it gets. For instance a friend of mine was telling me how you can get student loans to pay for college dorm rooms, but they can't be used to pay for general rental near your college. Do you know who that benefits? Absolutely nobody besides universities, it's hilariously corrupt. Especially when people could potentially be paying 1/2 to 1/3 as much in rent if they opened things up a bit.

I predict that the US is going to hell purely because of citizens united and first past the post/their voting system. Things only get worse every 10 years in terms of economic inequality and insane economics practiced by the ruling parties. How is anything supposed to change when there's such a huge amount of money going into the system they have first past the post?

Pay as you go for things like health care and school. The burden of some is not the burden of all. If this is communism (it is not), call me a card carrying pinko.

Also: The Canadian medical system leads to the "brain drain". All of the best doctors split stateside to make more money...all while having had their education subsidized by the Canadian taxpayer.

The universal health care system is a massive failure. A 2 tier approach is what is needed. You make more money? You should have access to better services. Just as a higher salary dictates getting better everything.

Can't you get private insurance in Canada?

Of course, but that is more for salary insurance, non-covered treatments, prescription costs, travel insurance, and private rooms.

Canada needs more 100% private hospitals to take the strain off of the overburdened medical system. Every welfare case with a cold clogs up the system simply because they have nothing better to do. 100% free health care leads to wasting of time and services.

I'm sure Jpie will confirm just how many unneeded trips to the doctor happen daily, taking away time/treatment for those that truly need it.

I can count on 2 fingers that amount of times I've been to a hospital here(all for my son). I'm still alive.

Another over-medicated bunch of twats with no pot to piss in taking away the service of those in need.

It is a cancer upon a society of entitled gluttons who give nothing back to it.

Welfare states are a scourge. Just look at England.

Eh, that's part of it, but not the main issue with our health care system. It's way too complex for this hour though, I'm at work and pretty much babysitting. Post op delerium + full moon weekend makes for a brutal stretch of night shifts. At least my colleagues and I are all in it together. We find the humour in it but it still requires the patience of a saint - it is bloody exhausting. I will sleep so good today.

This happens in the US too.

My brother is one of those assholes. He has perfectly good health insurance, yet when he has a medical issue he goes to the ER because he is too lazy to find a GP. He wastes everyones time doing this.

A very drunk and friendly Sri Lankan guy tonight made me promise to go to Burning Man at some point in my life. Then he introduced me to a bunch of people like I was the coolest person he ever met (he seemed enamored with my beanie). Also apparently my name is Clint now.
