I personally do not think family is the be-all, end-all of relationships. Relationships require effort, yes, but they shouldn't be work. It shouldn't be complicated or draining to be around people, especially not your family (imo).
My bottom line is, relationships have to bring positivity to the parties involved. It literally does not makes sense to stay engaged in a relationship that is toxic in any way, or consistently stressful. It's just plain not good for you, in any way!

I cut my father off when I went into the Army. It was around the time he discovered he had cancer, too. I was young and dumb, though. An angry kid without any perspective whatsoever on the situation. Luckily, he beat it. A light bulb finally went off that maybe I should revolve some of these issues so I can move forward in my own self development before anything else happens. It really helped the both of us. More than I thought it would, tbh.
As for my mom, that's still an ongoing issue. She denies everything, never wants to sit down and discuss the past, and has never had the ability to express her emotions - ever. Never an "I love you" or that kind of thing. You start throwing in stepparents and other variables into the equation and things can get messy. But yea, resolving things with my dad was of the utmost importance because he raised me and we share a lot of similarities as far as our personality traits and paths in life.
Good to see you're doing better, Juan. Keep pushing!

I see what you mean. Not worth breaking up over but I would be pissed too. She sounds young. Probably did not understand proper etiquette of the hook up.
