They're both great, Ovechkin shoots, Crosby gets his team into the action. Playmaker, Scorer, two different styles. Ovechkin is also bigger and older than Crosby. A year CAN make a HUGE difference in a player's skill level. I'd also argue that Ovechkin has a stronger supporting cast. Pittsburg doesn't look like they could buy a win against a pee-wee team who's shorthanded with a pulled goalie. I also remember seeing Crosby draw LOTS of penalties. Defenders have to haul this guy down to stop him! Scoring points isn't the only way to be a great asset to your team. Compare that to Ovechkin's love of taking penalties... shrug, difference of opinions and all that jazz.
Add to the mix, the fact that Crosby has a HUGE media following and is basically being held up as the next Gretzky. You're looking at TONS of pressure in his rookie year. Ovechkin gets attention for sure, but NOTHING like Crosby is getting, nor is he under the same ammount of pressure. I'm sure you're getting tired of the word by now, but pressure can destroy a professional athlete until they let loose and learn to just do their thing.
You also act like Lemieux is going to be able to teach Crosby how to be amazing. It doesn't work that way. Every great player in the sport has had their own style, copycats can become great, but never the best. It could be that his talks with Lemieux are actually hurting his potential rather than helping him.
Either way it's too early to tell... in a couple of seasons we'll be able to have a better look at who's truly the best.
