Ecler vs. A&H

ok before anybody starts flaming this thread YES I SEARCHED!

so ive been saving and saving for a while now and its getting close the the time that i will be buying my new mixer. for the last few months i have had my heart set on the xone :92 rotary. but now i am reading alot about this ecler nuo-5 and am wondering if it is on par in terms of audio quality.

i know all of the features of both mixers so i dont need a compare and contrast. i like the level meters on each chanel of the xone but i guess i could make do with a clip LED and the PFL meter of the nuo. one other thing that bothers me is that the software for the ecler is PC only and eventhough i have a PC now, my next laptop will be a Mac.

all i really want to know is, has anyone used both ecler and A&H (not necessarily these two specific models)? and what did you think about the quality (sound, feel, duribility and reliability) of the ecler compared to the A&H?

right now i am still leaning towards the xone :92, but the nuo is definitly making me think twice about it.

Thanks Guys!!!

Well I can say that the Xone is better quality, but the Nuo is still awesome, plus you need to hear them for yourself, everybodys ears are different and what you think sounds good, might sound crap the the next person, and vice versa, plus remember, if you get some high end mixer with amazing sound, you have to make sure the rest of your setup will not drag the sound quality down, you can have a Urei or Bozak mixer, but if your running it to your mums old Midi Hifi system, it will sound like shit.

Your equipment is only as strong as your weakest link.

They are both very hightly rated. Something of this quality is strictly about personal preference.

I disagree. The Nuo 5 beated every mixer I've tested so far (including the A&H. Especially crossfader abusers should really consider the Nuo 5. A&H uses P&G crossfaders, Ecler used a conductive fader. NOTHING beats a conductive fader.

Sound quality is also a bit better, but that's something only real audiopiles hear mostly. I like the RIAA filters in the Nuo 5 better. They really show off when it comes to quality, even with a crappy Stanton AL-500MKII cardridge.

Personally I feel Ecler's sound quality is on par with Allen & Heath products. My next mixer will be the Nuo-5, the main reason being its a top tier club mixer and on top of that you can do turntablism with the Nuo-5 and I'm into turntablism. The crossfader is straight up sick.

much thanks for the input everyone. since the ecler is alot cheaper than the xone its looking better an better. i just wasnt very familiar with ecler's quality and reputation. i really need to find someplace that has both of these mixers available for demo.

im not a big on crossfaders so that doesnt really matter to me that much, i do like the effects crossfader though, it looks really sweet. and if its PC only, maybe ill hold off on the mac and save myself some more $$ on my laptop.

great info guys, muchas gracias!

yeah the best thing to do is just find a place where you can try them both out. if your really into effects i think the Nuo will be the best route.
both are quality and you won't be let down by either. its just a matter of finding which one fits you best.
as was said earlier, if you really care about sound quality, the quality will be based on whatever your weakest piece of equipment is.
if you do plan on doing serious recording though for your mixes and recording vinyl to your comp to put on CD, i would go with the A&H, but make sure you have the best needles money can buy along with a good analog to digital interface

i wish i could be in your place right now, i'd kill for either mixer

The A&H is a much better unit imo, it has endless cababilites including midi control for live remixing. and its alot better build quality..

Try both first, but the A&H imo is easily the best mixer on the market. NOTHING comews close just now.

I don't see any capabilities that the A&H has over the Ecler, the Nuo-5 is the king of live remixing.

p.s. that means it has midi too and reprogramable FX, if you wanna split hairs yes the A&H has slightly better sound quality but thats subjective.

yeah the ecler does have midi. and im not worried about "slightly" better sound quality, im worried about "an ecler is shit compared to A&H" which is not the case it seems.

the reason that im not big on using effects is there is no way to get "versatile" effects, on the pioneers and such, the FX are very cut and dry, but with the progamable FX of the ecler, i think i would use them more.

again, i need to test them both out and get a real feel for them. but if its a choice of 700 for "slightly" better sound quality, i am goin with the ecler. i just wish they made it in rotary, but that isnt too big of a deal

apparently www.agiprodj.com is the only place in US carrying the ecler nuo5 right now. I just emailed him for a price quote as I was about to buy the DJM 3000 with the $200 rebate and I stumbled upon other choices. PM me if anyone has a price on the ecler yet. I am waiting on a response from them and I would like to know if anyone can do it cheaper. Thanks.

Look for the Dj Tranz item on the first page for his contact info, he is one of the guys from djmart.com. The last page states that he should have info on Monday if they will be carrying Eclers or not.

I believe the agi quote will be $999.
