Rubber was fucking awesome. Instant top-10 material in my book. I couldn't wait to see it once I first saw the trailer, and it more than delivered once I saw the whole thing.

I love it as goofy B grade horror.
I love it as a spoof.
I love it as metafilm and metacriticism.

Particularly surprised Butters didn't like it, having seen you express appreciation of fine movies earlier in the thread.

I like these pseudo-realtime movies like My dinner with André etc

Both mode and subject matter, and really the perfect recommendation for your request: The Big Kahuna (with Kevin Spacey)

Movies in the same mode (it's my favorite, really), but different subject matters and genres:
Deceiver
El Metado
Hard Candy
Phone Booth
Tape
The Man From Earth
Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
Mindwalk

i don't know. i might give it a second time around. the thing that interested me the first time when i saw the trailer was mr. oizo was involved with the movie, and i thought it would be pretty cool listening to his soundtrack and watching random artistic motions go by. maybe it was because i do remember having 1 or 2 too many beers that night and i was pretty hungry so that kind of got me in a grouchy mood (which may explain why i walked about early ).

// edit

oh and thanks for the complement!

Okay then, now that I went through the whole thread, here's the recommendations I've got for you, which weren't mentioned previously, this time with added trailers/synopsis/mini-reviews.

Oh, btw, the fuck is it with you people and Inception? Pretty generic Hollywood action with slightly over-par writing. Doesn't even come close to Nolan's better stuff like Memento, and you were all up in that shit, both before and after its release. Probably the most mentioned movie in this thread, and highly unworthy of that status.

Top:
Deceiver
Tim Roth kicking ass in the role of a highly intelligent murder-suspect.

Dogville
Mentioned once before me, but still. It's 3 hours long, and the first half will severely test your patience. The payoff is worth it. One of the first (and only) movies to make me cry since childhood.

El Metodo
A group of candidates for a desirable job need to eliminate each other to get the job.

Hard Candy
Mentioned twice before, but still. A fucking awesome picture. I don't want to reveal anything, so if you trust my taste in films, just do yourself a favor and watch it without reading anything more about, and of course, avoid trailers.

Natural Born Killers
Awesome in all aspects. Surprised it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Here's a trailer from one of the international releases, spoils far less than the original trailer, and gives off the vibe nicely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_67t6I_beg

Phonebooth
I often get the impression that people don't really care for this movie, and I never get why.

Rubber
Best post-modern film out there.

Tape
Richard Linklater totally knows his shit and doesn't even need the gimmicks he utilized in Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly to get it across. One room, 3 people. All you need for an awesome film.

The Big Lebowski
How the hell was this movie not mentioned here? I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume everyone's seen it already.

The Man From Earth
Low production values including acting, but I still love it. This is a movie about "What if a man from the upper-paleolithic had survived until the present day?" More accurately, this is a movie of a bunch of teachers discussing that question.

The Signal
Awesome collaboration. 3 parts to this movie, each by a different director, and all connected. The first is not too far from your typical zombie stuff, the second is a sitcom with violent psychotic characters, and I'm not too sure how to characterize the third (not because it's , just not sure), but it gives resolution with a tiny bit of mindfuck. Worth getting on DVD for very nice extra content.

Good:
$9.99
Stop-motion animation, cute stuff.

Before Sunrise
Before Sunset

Again, Richard Linklater totally knows his shit. This time he applies it to a romantic comedy, and comes out with the best two movies of the genre, in my book.

Blindness
A significant portion of the world's population loses their eyesight. The first to suffer that are quarantined. What happens in the quarantine facility? Harsh stuff.

Boiler Room
Ignore Ben Affleck, he has a lot more presence in the trailer than in the movie, fortunately.

Choke
Same guy who wrote Fight Club wrote this. This isn't as good, but it's still a fun watch.

Edmond
William H Macy goes to get his fortune told, and is told he is at the wrong place. This prompts him to leave his wife, with no particular destination in mind. The only thing he's after for most of the film is a fuck. Shit goes from bad to worse to worse to (open to interpretation.)

Fracture
Anthony Hopkins kills his wife and confesses. He messes with Ryan Gosling (The prosecutor going against him) in court.

Frailty

Freeway
This trailer is loaded with way too many spoilers, but I don't really have a good description for it without spoilers.

Home
Gorgeous stuff.
The full thing is right here, and legal, at that: http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=jqxE...U&feature=mv_sr

Humpday
Two friends who happen to be straight guys decide to do a porno film of them fucking each other for a porn film festival.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Jim Carrey had a car crash which led him to leave his wife and previous job and get out of the closet. He becomes a con man, and after falling in love with Ewan McGregor in prison, does everything he can to stay with him.

I Sell The Dead
I could give you my synopsis, but in a rare turn, the trailer here doesn't spoil anything much.

Idiots and Angels
A movie-length Bill Plympton cartoon. Do you really need to know more?

Look
"There are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras in the United States. On any given day, the average American is captured approximately 200 times. Every one of us is constantly being observed at our jobs, on the street, while shopping, and sometimes even in our own homes. Every one of our secrets, lies, crimes and most private moments are all being recorded."
You might worry it doesn't have narrative, but I can assure you it does, and a well woven one at that.

Man On Wire
Documentary about the dude who walked on a wire between the twin towers. Edited to give off the vibe of a heist film. Successfully.

Miller's Crossing
The Coen Brothers' second best film imo, after The Big Lebowski.

Motorama
Surreal stuff. 10 year old kid steals a car and goes on a quest to win some sort of lottery game.

Ong-Bak (1 & 2. Fuck 3.)
Martial arts, obviously, with Tony Jaa, who's pretty much the best we've got for the genre, in case you didn't know.

Orgazmo
Matt Stone & Trey Parker. Trailer says it all.

Pentagon Wars
This clip from the movie was the reason I tried it out. The rest of the movie didn't disappoint.

Sleuth (Both versions. Slight preference to the original)
In the original, Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier square off,
In the remake, Michael Cane plays the second role, opposite Jude Law, who reprises Caine's role from the original. Due to this fact, if you watch one of the versions and like it, you're bound to like the other one too.

Strapped
Slightly surrealist art-house (but acting and production values in general are good, which isn't always the case in the genre), bordering on gay porn. A 'hustler' (meaning male prostitute in this context, apparently) finishes off with one customer, and can't find his way out of the building. Instead he follows offer after offer, as everybody in that place is apparently homosexual. The movie does have a point, and it's definitely worth the watch, in my book, but you may be disturbed by the over sexuality, it definitely does border on porn.

The Big Kahuna

The Immaculate Conception Of Little Dizzle
Trailer spoils a bit, but says it better than I could.

The Last Supper

The Protector
My favorite martial arts film, so far. Again, Tony Jaa ftw.

Titus
Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus in a version with Anthony Hopkins and a healthy helping of surrealism.

U-Turn
Sean Penn in a black comedy by Oliver Stone. It's awesome, and far too few people have seen it.

Under Suspicion

Very Bad Things
I guess with movies like The Hangover and all that stuff out, this will strike you as pretty cliche'd by now, but hey, it came first, and it doesn't make it any weaker a movie.

Nice, I'm bookmarking this page. Thanks, Mel.

//And yeah, U-Turn is great. To say it's underrated is to imply that it's rated at all; as you say, fucking nobody has seen it, which is a shame.

I can enthusiastically recommend Lars von Trier's Antichrist, a heartwarming tale of love and companionship suitable for the whole family.

Rumour has it that they had to bring in a stunt dick for a masturbation sequence because Dafoe's cock is actually distractingly large.

I watched two movies today.

1. The Frankenstein Syndrome
The trailer had a glimmer of hope that this could be superior to generic horror, and I was feeling generous, so I gave it a shot. The sound mixing in this movie was awful, I had to be with a hand on the volume dial all the way... and that, combined with the fact the movie didn't follow up on that glimmer in the first 30 minutes turned me off it completely.

2. The Nature of Existence
Docu. Guy asks questions about the meaning of life and such to his friends, neighbors, random people he encounters, religious fingers, and scientists. I liked it a bit. I think I would've liked it more had every interview played in full beginning to end, rather than a huge number of speedcuts one after the other for each question.

Not recommending either, but the latter is watchable, if that's enough for your current standards.

I thought this movie was OK, but not much more than that. After seeing it for the first time I did feel the same way - that perhaps the payoff was worth it. Looking back, I wouldn't bother watching it again. I haven't. What irks me the most about it - there's almost no real tie to reality. Lars seems to be operating within his personally constructed framework of America, and it just doesn't work.

If you enjoyed this - be sure to check out Trust if you haven't already. It deals with some similar themes but does so much more realistically (IMO).

Totally agree with you here...Sunrise is a favorite movie of mine, and I can't think of a better, or more enjoyable, Romance movie. Sunset spent too much time in cheeesseeeee territory for me, but was still a good film.

Good shit to remember for if you ever get into a bar fight, too. Just Ong-Bak somebody in the fuckin face and you won't have much else to worry about.

It's on my watchlist. Stuff I have ready to watch on the HD, but haven't had the time yet. Along with:

Cell 211, Dancer in the Dark, Dial M for Murder, In Cold Blood, Kafka, Life as a House, The Informant, The Loved Ones, The Rebel, Paranormal Activity 2, Wild Target, The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela, The Big Bang, Down Terrace, Four LIons, Four Stories of St. Julian, Camp Hell, Somewhere, Essential Killing, Mindflesh, The Wild Hunt, The Wrath of Cain, Toy Story 3, The Trotsky, Legacy, Slave, Soulboy, The 7th Hunt, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Town, Freebie, Violent Blue, Macmodel, Trapped, Held Up, Wall Street 2, Held Hostage, You Don't Know Jack, The Rite, The Speed of Thought, Caged, Blooded, The Unforgiving, Chatroom, The Scientist, Fair Game, The Chameleon, Fathers of Girls, The Adjustment Bureau, Shadows and Lies, Henry's Crime, Battle Los Angeles, Transcendent Man, Second Apart, The Encounter, Vanishing on 7th Street, Elephant White, Megan Is Missing, Lucky, Sanctum, The Assistants, and Black Swan.

No order to the list above, and I just watch in the order random.org tells me to.
And I realize many of those are likely to be crap. Still had call to give them a chance.

Next up is actually The Assistants.
Edit: nothing special, worth a watch if it's randomly playing on TV, but I wouldn't hit the cinemas for it, nor rent it out on DVD.

Next was Megan Is Missing.
Two teenage girls get kidnapped, raped, and killed. The characters are cliche cut-outs and the investigation is handled in retarded unrealistic fashion.
