2010.07.31 WestsideWax DJ School presents DECKNANIGANS 2.0 - Another Fundraiser For Sukritham Home!

We're back at it! And once again, this is an intimate, invite-only affair - TOTAs who would like to attend, please contact me (Ian) via PM!

On Saturday, July 31 from 1 p.m. - 11 p.m., join us at Casa WestsideWax for our second installment of Decknanigans, a fine blend of quality music, progressive people and compassionate causes!

After equipment expenses, the last Decknanigans raised $150 for Sukritham Home, and we're hoping to bump that number up considerably at this month's version! Suggested donation is $10, though any amount you can spare will be welcomed with open arms. And again, to those who can't make it out to the party but would still like to contribute, donations may also be made both before and after the event, by dropping funds off to WestsideWax, or via PayPal at siddhis-r-us at hotmail dot com

(and f.y.i., we're still sussing out the details for the larger party we'd planned for August - timing and current budget limitations means that we may have to hold off on bringing our surprise DJ up to Toronto, but there's still a fantastic late-nighter in the works - stay tuned for deets!)

Now, on to to the nittiest of the gritty, the icing on your cake, the motion in your ocean and the ardour in your larder...your musical entertainment for the day!

Chris Formagin (Motown+Philly Soul+Funk+Conscious Hip-Hop)
DJ Kostt (Progressive + Techno)
Brian Globus (Jazzed-out Drum&Bass)
Mario Muņoz (Live Acoustic Latin Jazz - http://www.myspace.com/mariomunoz)
E.K.G. (Experimental+Minimalsim+Techno - http://ekg.podomatic.com/)
WestsideWax (Techno+House+Electro)

Artist bios to follow!

The Fine Print:

- The front door will not be open during Decknanigans, so you'll need to reference the map we'll be sending out in order to find the back entrance. If you have trouble negotiatiing steep stairs, please contact us and we'll make arrangements to let you in the front.

- We have cooler space, plenty of ice and the barbecue will be running all day, so please bring your own libations and whatever food you'd like to cook up!

- Decknanigans is a decidedly family affair, so feel free to bring cool kids and hip parents along for the ride!

- Smoking is permitted at Decknanigans, however at the last incarnation there were a few individuals who saw fit to butt their cigs out in our garden planters. We'll try to remedy this by making more ash cans available, but you'll also be doing us a big favour if you use the ones that are stationed at the northeast corner of the deck, especially if there are young'uns around. Thanks!

- We hold these events with the intent of creating and nourishing positive community - we encourage spontaneity, active participation and responsible partying, like so...

* If you have a unique talent you'd like to contribute, then bring it!

* Spare a few minutes to help clean up (you wouldn't believe how much easier this makes our day), assist with prep in the kitchen, or to grill up some grub!

* Take care of yourself and your fellow guests! Please make sure you know everyone you've invited - friends are fine, but things can get a bit dodgy when friends-of-friends-of-friends start showing up. If you see someone hanging around who doesn't look like they've been invited, please let us know - trust us, it's appreciated. And lastly, a friendly reminder that proper hydration, sunscreen and pacing yourself are a must on hot summer days, as is asking us to call you a cab if you need a safe ride home!

Decknanigans 2.0 - All That and a Bag of Funky Chips - see you there!

The countdown begins...Decknanigans 2.0 is 5 days away and the forecast is looking FINE!

25C AND SUNNY ALL DAY, say it with me now...

Just hot enough to soak up the sweet, sweet sol, cool enough to dance the day away...

Here's the scoop on the talent for 2.0...

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Windsor expat Chris Formagin is a die-hard vinyl enthusiast who grew up on the sounds of Detroit soul, funk, rock, and jazz - all of which can be expected to make an appearance in one guise or another in what promises to be a diverse and deep-crated opening set at Decknanigans. Chris is the founder of Vinyl Preservation Society, which boasts members in Toronto, Vancouver, Windsor, Detroit and Oakland, and which aims to sustain both the historical and playable aspects of our favourite medium.

3:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Originally from Portugal, where he was influenced by local heavyweights Jesus Del Campo and DJ Vibe, Leandro Menezes, a.k.a. DJ Kostt, will be playing out for the first time since taking up the craft just over a year ago. Launching his foray into the art of the ones and twos at WestsideWax DJ School, Leandro has long since branched off to put together his own unique blend of Techno and Progressive beats - come out to support this budding turntable maestro!

4:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. From newcomer to one of our oldschoolers, Brian Globus will be dragging a choice crate of classic Tech-Step and Deep Drum and Bass out of storage and into the Decknanigans DJ booth for some late afternoon brucking out, seen? Jazzy, low-end riddims to excite and deelite as day segues to dusk!

6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. We happened upon trovador Mario Muņoz while walking through Kensington Market one sunny mid-week afternoon. He was stationed with his guitar, a mic and a small amp at the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Baldwin - we passed and quickly found ourselved turning back to absorb the soulful acoustic ballad he was laying out as if there were an audience of 100 in front of him. We like that kind of passion in our music, and we're sure you will too - not to be missed!

7:15 p.m. - 9 p.m. Our man Giordan Battaglin is an all-round party maven - promoting, photographing T.O. nightlife as Psomatic Imaging and aurally blowing minds at nightclubs and late-nighters as e.k.g. His true-to-the-roots, highly-textured minimal techno sets, played masterfully as a digital DJ/PA hybrid, are consistently ahead of the curve in the Toronto dance music scene - you need to come see what all the fuss is about!

9 p.m. - 11 p.m. Yours truly will be closing out the night with a set of Ancient Hits and Future Classics. Expect everything from Chicago Jack to Acid and back, original Electro, funked out Detroit Techno, vintage Freestyle, (bounce that) Booty, Discofied edits and anything else you can think of that makes ya move, all laid out on 100% black crack, baby!

Last bits and bites...

- A reminder that all of our talent for the day are donating their time and energy to this cause, and we hope that you are able to do the same - please donate generously to Sukritham Home! (info on how to donate if you can't make it out may be found in the post above)

- As with D 1.0, our front door won't be open. You'll need to go through the back alley to get to Decknanigans - please message me if you don't already have the map! If you have trouble negotiating steep stairs, we can make arrangements to let you in the front - just let us know.

Once again, we're looking forward to a luxurious day of lazy rays, fantastic company, tasty fixins and hours upon hours of some of Toronto's finest underground talent - consider yourself notified! See you Saturday - and if we don't, then wherever you are and whatever you're doing, have an amazingly long long weekend!
