Definitely more elements to add, I'm still hunting for a suitable pad and more ambient back-drop sounds.
Everything that gets completed will get chucked up on my YT channel eventually...Suppose I can post some links as they get finished. Appreciate the feedback!
And of course yours in kind...
Mix-wise to me, there seem to be a lot of competing frequencies in the mid-range. I think the initial pads/lead could benefit from some minor/moderate EQ cuts @ 500hz (~-5db Q4), 1070hz (~-2.5 to 3db Q2) and 3.1 khz (~4db Q2) to help clear a little bit of the stuffyness.
I like the chunky/growly bass...And the kick. Also dig the darker atmosphere. The riser/sweep starts off ok, but I personally feel it gets a little out of place tonally as it pitches up. A little more stereoziation, or just adding some more complexity to it's tone in general could help it fit in better I think.
I like the atmospheric vibe afterwards. Similar to what was noted on my track, the percussive elements seem masked/way far in the back...Of course there's preference and intention...so if it's meant that way cool and it actually seems ok anyway...but, if not...maybe something to listen for/consider.
I think a bit of light melodic flavor that follows the main synth, using a contrasting (non saw-wave synth) laced in, or used as counter-point could be cool, or some more interesting background FX could take this track the rest of the way.
I don't personally mind quick n' dirty transitions, based on the idea that we're all conditioned as far as what-to-expect-when...though I think more intentional transitions (and this is something I struggle with), can help a lot with the ebb and flow of a piece. Subtle audio cues that let the listener know "hey, something major is about to change".
Whether it be filtering, percussive elements, the beat...some kinda indicator seems important to cue up the listener to any major change that is about to occur. (And I am extremely guilty, not doing this often enough myself...)
Overall I dig it so far...and it's the kinda vibe I particularly like as well. Best o'luck on it! |
Sounds good! I checked out your youtube now. Nice to see you've been so productive lately! Some good stuff. Will keep an eye on your channel.
Thanks for the feedback. Some valuable pointers. Will look at it and experiment with it after a break. Finally gonna dig in with some newer stuff now. And yes, the percussion is like that on purpouse.
Also some valid points about transitions. Thanks again!
And thanks MSZ! I will surely finish it one way or another.
