I like drinking on weeknights because it makes me feel like I'm part of a special club. A special club of people who aren't 9-5 drones.
So like, BTG I guess. :/

It's snowing 2 feet here tonight, so it's in fact a weekend for me!
Drinking with a friend of mine. (He's foreign)
//It's a rather hemp-y black IPA, kind of peppery with a sweet chili sort of light wood taste. Curious, indeed. /dons a greasy monocle

Why don't I get IPAs? I just don't get it. How did you all develop your palette for it?

I wish I had some tips other than "it's an acquired taste". I've always liked bitter/spicy/savoury/tangy far, far more than sweet anyway, so darker beers I am more easily adapted to.
The first IPA I really liked was Flying Dog's Raging Bitch. If you haven't tried that, I would personally recommend it as an excellent "gateway" IPA.

My tastes have always been for either the really dark thick beers (Guinness, Smitwicks) or light pale ales. i know they're completely opposites....but it's just what i've liked from the get go. If you don't like something, you don't like something.

I just seem to only get bitter and floral from so many IPAs. There's a microbrewery here that makes prolly the best (or rather, most enjoyable to me) one I've ever had. But I can't even discern why I found it better. When I went out west, both to California and Vancouver, IPA seemed to be the dominant beer. Funny how that changes by region. Here it's all lager or pilsner.

never getting to do that is the one thing i realllly hate about so-cal.
and jenny - as for developing a taste for ipas, i got really into pale ales first and that sorta drove me towards them.
