Well... The closest I've seen was someone who, as a teenager, wore braces despite her dentist deeming it unnecessary and once had her leg cast (is this how you say it in English?) simply because she wanted to know how it felt. None of it was irreversible, of course, so I'm not even sure it's a fair comparison

"To have a limb cast" sounds more like having a cast (sculpture) made of a limb, not putting a limb in a cast or having a cast put on a limb, which is how it would normally be said.

(For some reason, this is not the sort of thing they teach in language textbooks, heh)
