That may be true. But what are the Leafs doing with their budget? I bet almost any hockey player out there would love to play in a market like Toronto, but who's their biggest signing last fall ... Kubina? Come on, they should be able to do better than that, Pronger was a free agent, Hossa .....

you would think a lot of players would want to play in toronto but that is not always the case....there are two things that will drive the majority of players 1) Money and 2) Chance at a stanley cup. Toronto is so far away from a stanley cup that any of the big name free agents don't want anything to do with toronto. Toronto had almost half their cap room tied up in 4 players....its hard to sign another 7 million dollar player at that point. There will be some players who actually want to play close to home but they are few and far between and usually they are old stars at the end of their career.
The only way to build a true contender in this day and age is through the draft....toronto keeps having a mentality to make the playoffs...doesn't matter if they are 7th or 8th place they are just happy to make the playoffs. The problem is...when it comes to the draft they are in the middle of the pack and its a crap shoot at getting a player who can actually make a real difference. I would rather see toronto completely gut the team and have two or three seasons where they finish near the bottom...then they will have a few players that can make a difference and will have a chance for the stanley cup...besides...Pittsburgh will not be able to keep both their star players and one of them will be going somewhere.....by then toronto will be in a position to grab one of them and make a true challenge for the cup.

look at pittsburg, even with the draft they arent doing so well. crosby, malkin, and stall. yes those guys are great players but look at where the pens are in the standings. theyre doing no better than the leafs.

malkin and crosby are 18-19... i would prefer have them in my team now, than playing against them in the futur.

you are not looking at the big picture.....Pittsburg will probably have a Stanley cup in the next five years.....they can build a team around these players.....toronto doesn't stand a chance of actually building a team because they always draft in the middle

well they did look better this game w/ more confidence for sure. their passing was much better during power plays which gave them more chances. and of course, not taking as many penalties helped as well.
they still cant see to hang on to the lead, but it sure makes for an exciting last 20 min.
