Why would you put The Mist there? I think it's actually a good movie, not a guilty pleasure.
I'm on the fence about it. I remember the story used to be one of my favorites of his (I loved his short stories as a kid...read all of em over and over again). I liked the way they ended the movie, but would've much preferred a very open-ended sort of thing (like in the story). Was kinda meh about the cgi too.
it's been a while so i don't remember much else about it. maybe i'll give it another go

Imho the ending is the best part and an open one, like in the story would be clearly inferior. I watched the movie and though "ok, now here comes King's lame ass ending" only to be amazed by what they did instead. Very powerful and fitting. Also, I liked the CGI very much. Well, not the CGI itself but the fact that in The Mist it's just a visualization tool used in storytelling. Not something to whore shamelessly for its own sake. If a movie gets that right I'm willing to accept any CGI quality.
Also, I'm probably very late on this, but I highly recommend Battle Royale. Amazingly entertaining, while not all that shallow.
