yeah, the first version is actually better :-p
by closing off the lowpass on the lower bass you effectively pushed it back in the mix instead of bringing it forward

but the first version is pretty good - you can end up destroying a mix by tweaking it too much (been there done that)

I don't think it's possible (at least not with my limited knowledge) to bring it forward more. That sawbass takes up a hole lot of space and I can't compromise to much on that.

Yeah it's pretty easy to get carried away and destroy the mix. It's frustrating though when you hear things that you're not satisfied with but can't find a solution.

To me, the sound is relatively raw overall, what with the rumbling kick sound, the somewhat basic hihat pattern, the bass/pad synth choices, and the extremely sparse fx work. That's not a bad thing per se, but I think the track could benefit from a little smoothness somewhere, if only to create a contrast against which the rawer elements sound even more paleo Maybe one of the existing elements could be adapted (I think the kick or the pad would be good choices), or something could be added (like an arp, or some more flowing percussion). Does that make sense?

I did a neat little trick in the build, the main riser aside from the shepard tone is the reverb tail from the saws resampled and pitch bent

Whee, that's quite a kick! I felt like there was some frequency fighting in the low end between kick, bass and sfx. Not hearing the shepard so well really, maybe it's because there aren't so many iterations - but then again that's kind of the point of a shepard tone, that you don't notice it The actual track feels a bit incoherent, like momentary glimpses of a complete track through the windows of a passing train - as if we're missing half of the action. I felt that I had to strain to make sense of what I was hearing. The sidechaining sounded quite imprecise, maybe it would work better if the response were a little snappier, and there were more of the harmonic content overall. Or maybe it just needs a rug to tie the room together, some element that bridges some of those pauses. I don't know vv

Good overall drive, like the percussion work in the intro a lot, bass may be a tad dry. Good buildup into initial dance part, then the kick suddenly vanishes before its time The delay that opens the breakdown could maybe use a little reverb on it, just to keep it from sounding unfinished. That rubber ducky sound is well done, I was thinking "I hope he highpasses that when the beat sets in". love the dark congas with the basic beat. the arrangement is starting to get a bit boring by 4:30. feels like something should have happened by then. I think the track could work well two or three BPM faster. The rolling bass in the outro is great, I love that kind of sound - could be a bit more bouncy perhaps? Overall a very punchy showing, and although it does not sound modern it's fairly distinct from the original.

Ohhh that's a lush start. Loving the kick and the hats too. Not quite as keen on the bass, neither the roller nor the offbeat sub (the former seems out of key somehow? the latter is a bit too simplistic for the sophistication of the rest of the sound). The mixing is really good, clean and crisp.

Here's something I'm working on that I'd like to get some feedback on. This preview isn't an arrangement yet, I just threw together what parts I had without any transitions or song structure.

What I'm looking for is feedback on whether it's unique enough - after the initial session I suddenly noticed that it felt a bit like I had unconsciously replicated a specific track (although I couldn't say which one).

And if you have any other, more general feedback (on sound choices, composition, whatever ), that's very welcome too!

Thanks for listening!

edit: oh yeah the reason why it's called thrillipreview is that i made the drums almost completely with the preview pack from the new thrillseekers samples from freshly squeezed

Quite a smooth surrounding atmosphere you have going on in this WIP - love your kick (as usual) and in pair with your base line creates really cool background for your melody to unwind.

I would still love to hear more melodic development + your piano needs to be push forward a bit more - overall sweet start man !!!

Wayfinder it's perfectly acceptable but if you want it unique you need to focus on 1 or 2 critical personality stamps and strip it down a lot as it's quite a big wash of sound. At the moment it would be like music in a film with someone driving if you get me. Fine if that's your aim btw.
