Are you arguing that movies shouldn't be watched in anything but their native language? Neither subtitled or dubbed? If so, obviously it's ideal to get as close to the original as possible, but isn't watching it translated and getting most of the meaning better than none at all? I think so.
One thing about subtitles though, I think it should be declared at the onset that a movie is subbed, either at the theater or on the cover of the DVD box. I'm cool with subs as long as I know what I'm in for. Case in point, Pan's Labyrinth. If I had known beforehand I probably would've been more receptive to it.
