I've done a fair bit of DIY date recovery in my time - what EXACTLY happens when you try to access it? And what type of drive is it.
Oh, and use it as little as you can when trying to recover it (i.e. don;t keep attempting things/keep it plugged in etc) as this can further fuck the drive.
