I love synthesizers, but string instruments are just so damn expressive. Im old and I'm not even 30 yet!

It arrived earlier this week, still working on building up callouses, but its got a great tone and is extremely playable.

Trying to figure out what I want to start putting together. Pre-ordered some monitors, bought some bs romplers on ebay, Im thinking the novation circuit is next, but the build quality looks whack. So the korg volca sample might be an option to add on(but free-hand syncing), I have a chance to go full battery-powered and I dont know why that sounds appealing, but it does.

Build on the Circuit is fine. Plastic, but sturdy.

I'm assuming 'whack' = bad in this context.

Well yes, Im not sold on the build quality; I have been following a public group of the product and quite a few people are reporting dead products after a while, who knows how they're treating them though. I dont think I'd buy it full retail price, I can imagine novation doing a firesale at some point considering its popularity and introduction of the monostation etc. I mean its not going to outlast an old metal electribe.

Novation are pretty good at honouring their warranties and at the end of the day it's a VERY cheap product. Probably not designed to last the rigours of gigging, but people still do.

Maybe the new Digitakt would suit you better, or a used Octatrack. Big step up in price though, and quite a learning curve.

Nah, mainly after that sequencer w/ midi out since the synth engine is not exactly desirable. Love live chinese products. And yes, I know about the squarp.

Thats like a glorified computer tho. The more I think about what I really want the more I realize how silly it all is.

It kinda is, but basically a dedicated one that only runs MPC. You're really buying it becuase it's a stand alone box that has tons of memory but all the usual MPC functionality. It's tryign to appeal to those that don't want to use a laptop and a controller.

Probably best to get a Circuit, figure out what you do/don't like and go from there. All MPC's are glorified computers in some respect.

Yea im pretty settled on the circuit anyway, just waiting for a good price or at least a sale I guess. Using an mpc wont really generate any ideas I couldn't generate using a computer from what im visualizing mentally(im also retarded so this is a problem), not the case with the circuit. Also, Battery powered y0.

So I took delivery yesterday of a Pittsburgh Lifeforms SV1 analog module.

Thinking of getting a little mixer, preferably with pre-amps to run this and my Roland JD XA into, followed by my new Eventide Space unit and then into the RME Fireface interface.

Behringer do the Xenyx 802 (and I think a 502) - but they seem wayyy too cheap at about £50. Some say they are noisy. I'm tempted but cant work out if these are suitable for synths - everyone talks about MIC use as far as I've yet found.

MY AIMS;

1) A handy simple mixer all set up so both synths and my MIC all routed through one box then into the Fireface

2) I've always wanted to run the synths and MIC through 'something' like a pre-amp (lol) to perhaps round-off and slightly enhance (dare I say 'densify'..) the sound. I realise this opens me up for some flaming and some will say there's really no need to run synths through anything, just straight into the Fireface interface.

As a reminder I'm a bit of a cheap-skate and don't like spending much on gear as I am very investment-anal and also the house needs new windows etc and I always say to my wife we can make do without (new windows alone would cost £25000) - we could easily spend £150,000 on the house - so spending on music gear must be sneaked through, sporadic and small!
