I will have to decide on how much effort I'm willing to put into a summer challenge mix if there is enough interest. Seems like we can drum up enough general interest year after year.
Should it be the same old Theme or Randomly-assigned Genre mix though? Any other ideas? What about something weird like only using artists that start with the letter W

Fuck, I wish I could do this, I just never get enough time to commit and I know the rules are harsh on flaking
Eh, I'm sure I could ease up on the rules if we are struggling on a head count.
Last year we had the deadline up until the end of the year, with two flaking. I don't have it in me to ban them both permanently from the competitions, especially since this forum's popularity is at an all-time low. If we were to do it again this year I'll have the deadline up until the end of the year and no penalty for not doing the mix. At this point it's not worth it.

I'm afraid I would get assigned something awful such as hard dance, edm or brostep if I were to participate. I'm too lazy to google the previous challenges. Anyone care to link them?

Yeah, that's why I'm interested in new ideas. We had a variety of themes for last year's challenge and that made for interesting submissions but not as much consistency within the challenge itself. I think most people are tired of the random genre one too.

One theme I've had in mind for some time is a scenario where your super credible stack of lo-fi breakbeat analog techno vinyl records gets nicked on your way to that gig in that rural town. Don't worry, though. Rural town school dance and sportsbar DJ surname heard about this and is willing to lend you his three flightcases of yesterday's top 40 on G+ CDs.
The scenario would be to find and play great remixes of top 40 tripe. Jungle mixes of 2 brothers on the 4th floor, Moritz Von Oswald remixes of Hit N Hide, Mood II Swing edits of Peter Andre tracks and so on.

Id be game too, ive been buying up old prog like no ones business trying to find stuff that was not heard before or played very little so depending on the challenge this could be ideal
*if the challenge was to unearth prog gems that is
Let's go big. The challenge is for each DJ to play a 6 hour set. How you would programme a whole night musically if you were booked to play all night long.
That's a good idea too. Would definitely be a long haul trying to listen to everyone's mixes. We'll be into next year's challenge by the time everyone finishes
Can we get another 5-6 people to sign up? Right now we have like 3-4ish and a couple maybes... No penalties this time, let's just enjoy the challenge and do it at our own speed.
