If you don't have high end speakers, another pair for reference is very handy indeed. Actually it can always be handy. Low-budget speakers often have problems in certain ranges and in transparency overall, which is exactly why another set could help you spot these problems. But IF you have good monitors (about 2000E+ budget) & acoustics to start with, a reference set should not be necessary for a good result . I use productions which have proven to be solid on lots of systems as my reference. Which imo should be enough of material to refer to on just one speaker set .
On those B&W speakers you can here a needle drop on the floor even if it was on a 100m distance from the mic. They're insanely accurate and amazingly transparent (given you got the separated amps of about 9000Euro per speaker). If your mix sounds awesome clean on those speakers it sounds awesome anywhere. 100% guaranteed. There's a reason why a set these speakers (with amps) cost about E40.000,- .
I recommend you to listen to them in your dedicated speaker shop. You will immediately get depressed about any other speaker you hear. My life will never be the same. And if I had the money to spend I would most definetely spend my 40K on a set of B&W's. It would be my most precious possesion and I would treat it better than my lady.
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

wow..!
When I first bought my Event I thought they aren't used so much like Mackie's and all and now I see them all around.
Defently glad to see such a big crowd enojying such good monitors.
eric-j, i can't tell the size cone from your pic? I own the TR-6...i absolutely love them, but i find the opposite where the low frequency is a bit lacking, but the mid/high is crystal clear

See I don't get this. If it's widescreen, why is it capped at that res?
My laptop 17" has a native res of 1920x1200 so I would expect a bigger screen to be able to support it
Top res for 22" LCDs at the moment is 1650x1050. You wouldnt want to go any higher than that. On a laptop it is ok, since you sit right ontop of it.

The 1650x1050 looks great on there anyway, I have no complaints. Still PLENTY of room to work, lol.

No, I have the Event Project Studio 6 Monitors, which I measured and they definitely have 6" cones. The TR6 is the upgraded version of what I have. Event pretty much just took the same design on the Project Studio 6's and added a few new features (like 6.5" cones) and called it the TR6. The Project Studio 6 monitors have been discontinued and replaced by the TR6's. If you can find some of the older reviews the Project Studio 6's were pretty highly regarded back in the early 2000's.
I don't know why but I remember a salesman telling me the TR are the 20/20's upgraded version or something...maybe I'm just confused...
but oh well, event is event, still it great!
-EDIT-
doh... can see your right, the PS6 do look exectly like the TR6... maybe he meant that the TR-8XL are the upgraded 20/20 since they both are 8" and look the same.
anyhow, I got the ASP6 and I love them.
