Back ages ago I came from the UK to AU under under a study visa until I was 18, then got a permanent working visa after that. Ran around overseas for a few years working out of Australia and eventually came back. I have some family here so that helped.

Also picked up quite a bit of synth influence from the early UK-US Acid House scene as well when the techno movement of the late 80's started picking up steam... and pills
EBM and Acid House kind of had a parallel development in the 80's but they really didnt seem to mingle very much. EBM wandered off into trance, industrial and futurepop and acid house spawned a few varieties of techno and club music around the same time.
Overall, I still think trance owes more too EBM than most of the other types of music that where floating around at the time.
