nah, 8Weeks of Boot, 8 Weeks of BESS(Basic Enlisted Submarine School) I was supposed to go to my A School, (Advance Electronic/Nuclear) but I was so sick and tired of school so I chose to Strike. Striking on a boat is basically being a gopher. You get to do everything and after your tour, you then decide what A school you want to go to. I was already a push button Petty Officer 3rd Class and it was a blast... then the accident happened and all came crashing down.
The VA just took away all of my disability except for my VA home loans and prescription plan. But me working for the Feds now, my insurance is the shit.... so no great loss I guess...

The greatest part of the Sub School was the damage control room. They would flood that place up and your team had to stop the leaks and pipes from filling up. The first time I went down in a sub was trip, they tied a string to the bulkheads tight across the walk way, with in a few hundred feet into the dive, the tight string was not tight anymore, it was very loose that it was touching the floor when just 15mins it was tight and that's when it set in that I was under water and could die.... WHAT A RUSH!!!
better than any drug ever. That feeling of death right on your back is quite interesting.......

i get a little nostalgic every once in a while and i really miss some of my shipmates but i love being with my daughter so much more.

Yeah, I do. Especially when I read about some country, Iran, talking shit about taking on our navy with some POS weapon from Russia. ha ha , we use to sit under Iranian patrol boats and listen to them, igits had no idea that we were there.
I miss that rush of not knowing if the drill we were on was not real. When we were heading over to Scotland one time we came out on a Russian Boomer, this happened in 92, we ghosted his ass for 4 days. He was coming up the coast of Greenland then headed to the east coast of the US.
Plus the pay was kick ass for the armed services.

I work with a mess load of Vets from all the way from Korea to the present shit we are in now. Some cat gave me a uniform from the 1st gulf war of some Iraq soldier. Some General garb.
Plus the stories, ahhhh the stories that VETS tell about shit they were in and wanted to be in. My mgr was one of the fellas in Somalia during the whole black hawk down crap. I guess with the clearance and the type of Job I do for the feds, I am surrounded by vets and people that have high level clearence.

but yeah, I miss it every so often.....but like you, I love bieng with my kids more than I miss it.

we were told to ghost a Russian made Kilo coming out of port. we watched her come out to the dive point...she submerged...and we never made contact with her again. pretty embarassing. we had a decent Sonar shack too. they just threw up their hands like, wtf?

those things are wicked quiet on the battery.
