Driving for 6 years, have been rear ended 5 times (3x by a woman, once by a student driver in a snow, and once by a drunk). If you add the 90°collision i was involved in (a woman ran a red light) its 1 accident per year so far, and none of them were my fault. The only time the front of my car touched another car is when i was in a chain collision and i was lunched into the car in front of me despite having my foot on the brake. Bless my little Hyundai it was the only car of the 4 that were involved¸ that drove away from that accident, the others were towed away Say what you want about Korean cars but when they made mine they built it to survive a head on with a tank

Well, just got back from a meeting with Gordon Brown, as you do!
Now I feel really important!
Who's he? lol
I wasn't on the net lately... and I feel this has been somewhat under looked LOl!!!
How did you get on? How/why did you meet him? And what was your opinion?
Highest up guy I've met is chief exec of Rolls-Royce Sir John Rose, conclusion: nob. But to be honest he was meeting a lot of people and must have been fucking boring.

He was in Leeds for some event or other and I think when he goes places he tries to pop in and see the local Labour parties and cos I work for an MEP we managed to get invites! Prob bout 100 people there from the Leeds area. He just gave a short talk then took answers from the people who were there. Seemed ok I suppose!

Wow, I missed that original post too - that's very cool. I like that he mingles with the people below him still. That's one of the things that is frustrating about the American government today... Bush doesn't go near a crowd that hasn't been vetted thoroughly.
When I worked for the US Senate a few years back it was really neat to randomly run into Senators like John McCain or Barack Obama in the hallway, and it's neat to think about the likelihood of one of them being the next President.

Well there was still his security detail there plus we all had to have photo ID. But one thing that strikes me as a complete contrast between the UK and America is the amount of opportunities to grill the leader in the UK as opposed to the US. Every week the PM has to go before Parliament and take questions from his own party and the opposition. Any questions. There have been quite a few fuck ups regarding electoral finances and the opposition have been having a field day (despite their own £500k electoral donation scandal!) If that happened in America, or if the Democrat Senetors wanted to grill the President about Iraq etc etc I just don't know how often they get to do that? I know that certain scandals to have hit the US in recent years where the White House has shielded Bush from having to give evidence or account for himself would not be able to happen in the UK as MPs would be asking those questions with immunity from prosecution every week to the Prime Minister! I think it makes our politicians seem a little closer to the electorate and not completely distant and removed as I see in America (altho I'm not American so your opinions might differ)

Very true George about PMQs. Have to say Brown interests me I really do think he's a conviction type.
Wouldn't fancy working for him though!!!
Good luck with the job as well.

They show this on American TV sometimes and it always strikes me as highly entertaining. I used to watch Blair wiggle out of some tight spots and it always left me wondering if Bush would even have the ability to answer half of what would be asked... get him away from his pre-determined remarks and who knows what he would say.

I was a Congressional intern during college, but I have applied for jobs at State and a few other places for after grad school.
