I have a high distaste for much of the rap and hip hop that comes out of the us (though i will admit to listening to an occasion hit tune, but that its usually the case that the song is so annoying and is played so many times that the overbearing annoying factor makes you like it). I do enjoy much of domestic and balkan artist though, for instance Edo Maajka is one of my favourites and i always enjoy six pack čukur and slon & sadež (though these two make all styles of music not just hip hop). Also i enjoy some french rap. Not because of the lyrics (cant speak a word of french) but i just like the sound of the french language. A bit weird but what the hell. I also like the sound of japanese language (and i love japanse pop and dance music, the pure silliness of it is just so awesome) though contrary to frech i can actualy (at least partially) understand japanese (thank you japanse tv shows).

Don't limit yourself to one genre, though techno is a lot easier to start off on.

Yeah, that's why I've got to choose, at least, the BPM range I'm focusing on.

Indeed, I'd hate to limit myself to one "genre", but let's face it: records are quite expensive and I'd then have to choose a starting point.

If I pick drum'n'bass, I'd focus on fast paced genres, such as drum'n'bass, trancestep, freeform and hardcore in general (although drum'n'bass is an absurdly broad genre). If I pick Acid Techno, on the other hand, I'd focus on hard acid techno, hard acid trance, nrg, techno and hard house.

I do plan on working on "Maximalism", which would make be able to drop both drum'n'bass and acid techno in one set, but I need some priorities first

Well unless you've got a very keen ear and can mix synth and bass lines on key as a transition after cutting the drums. Personally I'm not much good at it... slightly deaf in one ear
I don't know, 4-4 beat is easier to mix and you can throw a lot of other genres in there if you have other stuff lying around as most of the electronic genre as a whole is 4-4.
But yeah, I agree, D&B certainly has a lot of sub-genres in there you can explore.

I prefer 127ish BPM. I realized how insane trance is when it's comes to that and also why it has to be executed very well in order to sound good, IMO. One reason why I prefer house now, it's a lot more layed back and chilled out. Keeping in mind how many break downs/build up [mainstream] "trance" has these days, it sound aweful and doesn't even remotely remember the style that for me in to EDM in the first place.

Just checked it out, it's got some neat tracks in there but it's a little too dark for me .
