And Compiz for eye candy, but it also add to usability.
EDIT: I thought this wallpaper was kind of neat btw http://www.heise.de/ct/motive/01/06/p1600.jpg

Linux is nice, except for the difficulty in installing new programs, and I can't play any games on it. Nor could I use media programs. That was with Ubuntu. To install a new program, I had to actually type in commands. How 1980's is that!?

That is so not true. It's actually 10 times easier than to install programs on windows. In Ubuntu there's a graphical interface where you just search for the program you want to install, mark it for installation, and then click apply. So incredibly simple my 6 year old sister could do it.
@shaolin, that looks really nice I'm also on Ubuntu now, although i turned off compiz because my 5 year old laptop would make it lag slightly

ubuntu forums and google is your friend . Installing codec support for audio / video is easy, and with WINE installed, you can run most games too btw. I have an old ass computer so I'm playing the original unreal tournament, quake 3 and diablo 2 with WINE in Ubuntu. But I've seen a friend playing World of Worcraft and it runs and looks excellent too. If you have questions, I suppose me and / or St. Andrew could help out .

I've got 1GB of RAM, want to upgrade to 2GB. I also want to upgrade from 2.13Ghz to 3Ghz. You think 256MB video card is good enough. I can run hardware intensive games like supreme commander and battlefield 2142, but it can always be better!

Yeah man, you should be set with resources like that . I ironically my windows games actually run better under Linux, because the OS isn't a resource whore like Windows .
EDIT: About the video card, ask St. Andrew. I haven't kept up with games in ages. Or I could just do a bit of research for you and get back about the video card .

depends entirely on the model; the amount of ram on a card isnt that important any more. 8800s are so cheap right now.

battlefield is rather old, and supcom is CPU intensive, not GPU intensive.
