I'm still trying to get my head around all of this

I'm a huge fans of the moves Burke made today, still can't believe he actually pulled it off....
Heartthrob - Baby Kate (Magda's "Where Is My Baby's Daddy" Mix)
Danton Eeprom - To The Bone (Jamie Jones Deep Sea Dub Mix)
Matt Nordstrom - Lucky Drawls (Mark Brooms No Rave Stab Mix)

Phaneuf really doesn't want to come to toronto..... did you see his reaction. it looked like he was gonna break down and cry. I don't blame him. Saturday night they pull off a win, sunday he finds out from reporters first that hes traded..... incredible.
especially to a team thats 2nd worst in the nhl. i also thought he was going to be a cornerstone in the calgary franchise. him and igilna. I really hate to see stajan and white go. although i think they will play better for calgary anyways. those guys deserve to play for a playoff team.

Holy fucking trades batman!
Burke just blew my mind.
I'm not sure I'm happy about giving up White to get Phaneuf, though. White was a strong presence on our blue line.
We just traded practically half of the core team... this is insane.

According to tsn, white has posted the almost the numbers as phaneuf although calgary is getting him for a fraction of the cost. which is good for calgary. they will get some offensive firepower for now while toronto will still need another year to get the wheels going again and in a spot to be in playoff contention.

Yeah I'm really not happy with them trading White in the Phaneuf deal. I think we gave up too much, looking at the current stats of each player in the deal.

You can't really look at the current stats to judge this trade. At this point they are pretty close in stats but you have one player playing probably the best he has ever played and the other playing as bad as he ever had.
Phaneuf needed a change of environment but I don't know if the media crazy Toronto is the right place for him...hopefully it is. Phaneuf is a 45 point per season defenceman and White is a 25 point per season defenceman.

And that is exactly what needs to be done....get rid of the old.
Burke isn't done yet....Poni is going to be gone and I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the following gone either: Finger, Schenn, Stempniak, Mitchell, and Exelby

Burke has always been a huge fan of Phaneuf. I can remember when a reporter at a draft asked him , "Ovechkin or Crosby?". He answered, "Phaneuf.".
He is a great hockey player having a bad year, make no mistake Calgary wins the trade right now, but Toronto got the best player.
Sam Pollock (aka the best gm in the history of the job...not debatable as he won the most cups) once said it best, "He who gets the best player wins the trade, no matter what the price."
As far as another year, i think it will take way longer than that to fix, but the leafs took the right steps. They do not have too much money left to sign 10 forwards, which will make Burke's job next to impossible. You never know anymore though, did anyone think Buffalo was going to be as good as they are this year?

Why No mention of Kaberle on that list?
Since we do have a fairly strong defense core with Phaneuf, Komisarek, Beauchemin, Shenn and Kaberle, we could get rid of Kaberle in exchange for a decent forward, without really putting a major dent in our defense.
But I agree, if we can trade Finger for a bag of pucks i'd be happy. At least we can free up some more cap space.

Burke said again yesterday that he would not ask Kaberle to waive his no trade clause. They can get rid of him in the off season, because his clause ceases to exist for the last year of his contract if the Leafs miss the playoffs...which they certainly will.
it sucks that a Habs fan know more about this team than you
