just finishing up some prep work and noticed Liebing said this in an interview almost 2 years ago
Q - You have done a lot of touring this past year and have played all over the world. What are you favorite places to play and what gigs and parties stand out for you?
Chris: I recently had a great North American tour and played in many places I have never played before and places that I didn’t know what to expect. Of course I had a great night, as I always do at Aria in Montreal, but I also had a really good show at Avalon in New York City and was totally impressed with the crowd and the vibe that night

Wonder what he thinks of Toronto??? The Beyer night went well.....maybe word is getting around that more people here - i think - are getting a genuine interest in techno. Beyond Cox and say ...Hawtin??

I think Liebing is in a different ball game than Cox and Hawtin which is why his audience is smaller.
Carl plays everything and anything, and hawtin is just...hawtin. he always brings a party, and he's known as a canadian techno superstar to many. Liebing is a bit more unknown and until relatively recently he was known for bringing hard beats.

Exactly. But many would likely say Cox's name if you asked lay-people who they knew in regards to techno. But when he starts to play decent techno here in Toronto...he loses the crowd and goes back to housy stuff.

When I was chatting with Rob Hood after his set at Avalon in NYC he actually singled out the Footwork party he played at as one of his favourite gigs in recent memory! (and without realizing I was Canadian)
Always nice to hear stuff like that.

dunno but he did say this about Canada in general!
DJF: Where do you feel America is at with electronic music compared to overseas?
CL: In the states the club culture is not as developed. In Europe when you are 16 or 17 you start going to clubs. There isn’t a drinking age, it’s more of a cultural thing. In the states it’s more divided by ages. Your personality is settled by 21. People have not decided how to do it yet, they’re not really up for it. Canada is much more club oriented.

What makes you say that?
I just don't think he plays exclusively techno...nor has he ever, really.

No, what i mean is most people know so little about techno, Cox - even though he plays many styles - is often associated with it because he is probably the only one they know.
But I would say he does play more housy sets here. Wasn't his set at TIL more house, then the next night he blew the crowd away with bangin beats in Montreal? And his last set at Guv. was alot of house. The last set he played being mostly non-house stuff here in TO would be Decadance, was it 3 years ago?
Plus house is alot more popular in Toronto, so i guess he's just pleasing the masses.
