No problem with my bass. Don't have exactly an empty room but mine sound fine, and with a subwoofer, they will sound even better. The whole room treatment thing is more for production purposes (sound proofing). I use my monitors as loud speakers, not studio monitors for production (although they can be used for that as well). I monitor in my headphones more anyways, they are used more for listening or for EQing, making sure it sounds right.
