It's absolutely true. Many book to movie adaptations neglect the essence of the novel entirely, and that is bad. But people who bitch, in this case, that the movie was bad because it didn't follow the book verbatim are fucking idiots who have no grasp of what cinema is. Outrageous!

What exactly wasn't clear there? Do you mean Woodrow's revenge sequence, which then turns out as a hallucination? I think the tragedy of all that is actually stronger if it's first played straight (more or less) and then shown as nothing but a fantasy. It's not like the film doesn't allude to this earlier; in the beginning you see some of the shots from later parts of the film so it's clear it's not going to have a simple linear storyline.
I thought clarity was lacking in how the movie was all over the place when it came to a timeline - flashes of past and future intermingling with present, at times I was uncertain of the timeline. I didn't necessarily see it as reality/hallucination either. Instead, I felt like the movie was displaying 2 potential realities.

Just watched ^^. Found it to be great, one of my favs of the year. Peter Mullan is such an awesome actor. He doesn't have to speak a single word to say exactly what he wants to.

Had this all weekend but decided to wait and see if any reviews come up.
I ended up watching the prequel to the movie The Thing. Nothing new or spectaular, pretty much the same thing as the John carpenter one. The only difference between the two is that ill still remember Carpenter's one next year but ill have forgotten this one. The alien in those movies is still the scariest and nastiest mofo'ing thing imaginable in my opinion.
Also sa the Ides of March which was interesting but not really my cup of tea.

Yeah, I caught this one as well. Haven't seen enough of Hoffman lately, so that was pretty enjoyable. I would've liked to see more of a back-and-forth between him and Giamatti, though. A few plot holes turned me off from the movie at times, but I thought it was enjoyable overall (perhaps a bit dull).

I'm with senor russell on hot tub time machine - thought that was pretty funny as well.
As for other comedy recs - in bruges, the guard, the foot fist way...
idk what else to recommend.

no those are good recs since they're not obvious. IDK about the last one as I'm not a huge McBride fan. In Bruges looks good - DLing. The Guard I was checking out a couple of weeks ago and was kind of on the fence becasue of some mixed reviews on IMDB, but it can't hurt and Don Cheadle is pretty awesome.
