And I guess I'll have to watch the Wicker Man remake because based on what's in this clip it's absolutely insane.

Hugo is such a lovely, wonderful film. If you don't like this you (a) have no heart (b) have no passion for cinema.

I don't understand. I guess if you're someone who watches movies to turn their brains off and let themselves be passively entertained, then maybe such a person would find Hugo boring.
Don't take this personally, I just like to think that there are no boring movies, just boring viewers who don't know how to watch them.
Hugo is in a way a lot like a Jacques Tati film in that it requires certain active participation from the audience. Especially when it comes to its use of 3D (best since Avatar) where you often have several planes of simultaneous actions that you can focus on in one shot (especially at the railroad station scenes). It's kind of similar to Play Time where you have to find your own gags to amuse yourself. I think Hugo, among other things, updates this concept by using new technology.
Then you have all the loving movie references/references to historical persons/events; the numerous themes the movie employs, like the relationship between humans, machines and film - there's so much to think about.

I'd like to think that too, but many boring movies have proven me wrong in the past.
I'm fine with a film speaking to some and not others; it would be unrealistic to think otherwise, but you really think it's not possible to make a boring movie?

Of course, there are many bad movies out there, and I still find myself bored when watching some of them.
The way I see it, though, you really have two options: be bored, or try to find a way to enjoy it. I remember that one time, when I was watching something I decided was horrible, I stopped following the dialogue/story and focused on editing (how long are the shots etc.) and mise-en-scene (how are the shots composed). I still do that when watching any movie, but this time I guess I concentrated on that a lot more. That's not to say this is the only way to do it, but simply saying a film was boring seems to be too often just a poor justification for not even trying to think about what's being shown.

Heads up: We Need To Talk About Kevin is in most theaters at the moment (opened last week).
Very good reviews for this film, and from an up and coming Scottish director Lynne Ramsay.

If that was all it was, I would agree with you. But there are many films that are plain boring. For you to assume that someone saying a film is boring equates to their lack of ability or effort to understand what's going on in it is short-sighted. Some movies just suck. You can try to see the silver lining in them (cinematography, editing, etc), but in the end, if a film is not entertaining, the viewer is completely justified in stating their negative views. Art is inherently subjective. To take someone's statement that it sucks as an intent to imply that it is objectively bad is silly. Saying any piece of art sucks equates to saying they didn't like it.

I do agree worth seeing. Not the best movie of 2012 ('Pariah' is better), but most certainly in my top 10. A very intriguing topic, and Kevin's silent epilogue at the end of the movie was haunting if you understood his subtle text based on what he said in the beginning of the movie.
