I know, but that subjectivity kind of depends on your approach to watching film(s) and that can be changed. In other words, you can make more out of a movie if you watch it actively than if you're in for some passive entertainment. Many comedies now rely on its audience's knowledge of popculture and/or genre conventions; knowledge that has to be used in order to get the jokes. Imagine someone not well versed in this watching such a film - they probably wouldn't find it entertaining because they would miss all the funny stuff. This works on a deeper level of knowledge, too.

My statement about "no boring movies" is consciously radical, in that it aims to move the responsibility for "the entertainment" from the movie on to the viewer - again, to advocate more active viewing.

Brazil is definitely one of the best films ever made. Damn. Every time I watch it it gets better!

Saw Tinker Tailor on Sunday and it's absolutely terrific. It requires a lot of attention so if you expect a straightforward Bond-like story you'll be lost and bored by the first 30 minutes. Loved it.

Finally saw it myself and have to say it was utterly outstanding.

It's actually a masterclass in subtlety; direction, acting, casting, costume, lighting.....just superb. Hurt, Oldman, Strong and Firth just knocked it out of the fucking park.

The freakiest thing about it, having grown up in London not too long after that period is how damn well they nailed that point in time. I remember it having that distinct feel, that grit, those houses and cars.

Incredible. I think I'm going to watch it a second time just to try to catch more of the nuances.

I just watched Drive twice in a row. Fucking incredible film. The music and score are both excellent, so is the photography. It's like an hour and forty minutes of ultraviolent Michael Mann Viagra.

I've been meaning to watch this for a while now, it looks awesome. I may have to bump it up to the top of my list of films to watch.

..... after I've finished watching Sunshine again, of course.

It's one of my favourite sci-fi films. It's a shame it didn't get the recognition it really deserved.
