You probably changed the option under message options to merge sms messages with email messages. This hides the sms icon as well from the main screen.

i have the general messages which include all incoming messages (text, sms, facebook etc) but also have the sms icon...it didnt hide it....
he says he cant receive. if he had it merged, he would've at least seen them in that box.... this is an odd one...
Pros:
It doesn't have a 160 char limit (if your carrier does).
If you have the option to "only use mobile numbers", calling a contact from a convo doesn't bring up number choices.
Cons:
No MMS support.
It can't handle a new message when you're in a convo.
One or two more items on each side, but definitely a nice SMS app if you want a flavor change.

Need to be mroe specific...
1) Can't see them? Are the blank? Do you get notifications but they are not in your SMS/Messages list? Did you used to have SMS messages but now they are gone?
2) How did you confirm not recieving or sending? Do you get a red X for sending? Or does your icon next to a sent SMS have the signal icon (pulsating)? Did you try sending to another cellphone, and it appeasrs succesful on your send, but the other user doesn't get it... and for recieving, vica versa?

Thanks for this! The character limit was sooo annoying. Great solution.

5.0 allows you to send larger messages, just splits it into two
