All i can say is Viva La Australia!

But seriously, this is a fairly interesting situation, i do believe that if genuine mis conduct is going on then the people have a right to know what shenanigans are going on behind closed doors, IF it is serious enough to warrant it...

It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.

I like how all the articles keep talking about the shocking discovery that diplomats are actually spying on their host countries and how the U.S. keeps denying it. Diplomats have always been spies. That's one of their main jobs!

You are an idiot.

They aren't keeping secrets from you because you are citizen. Do you think everyone in a country will keep quiet and not let some one from a rival country know if the government decides to tell them something?

No.

Secrets are kept for the good of the state and in turn its people.

wikileaks is one of those issues that i am completely ambivalent about. its capacity for great good is only matched by its capacity for great harm.

i know hal and his peace pipers greatly enjoy the merriment, but when he or one of his equally nihilistic idealists are held in some 3rd world prison for smoking pole he'll wonder why "diplomatic pressure" doesn't quite have the same impact it used to.

Yeah, yeah. I'm not a 'power to the media' ultra-lib person, I'm not sure where you ever got that from. Governments should be allowed to keep secrets just like anyone else - especially when they protect people whose jobs hinge upon discretion. I think it's quite fucking self-evident the US government did a horrendous job of keeping their apparently dangerous (???) secrets in this case however, and so now they will face the consequences. What reason is there not to find amusement at this point?

The media, very much like Washington's take on government, is like fire; a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Both are necessary to keep the other in check. Now stop playing with your piece pipe, you're going to go blind.

Nah, I saw it more as gleeful masturbation as someone (anyone!) stuck it to The Man

Oh, im not doubting the funny in this instance, just pointing out to one and all that eventually something shit will happen due to wikileaks (if it hasn’t already) that could’ve been avoided were leaks a little more circumspect. Yes, I appreciate this kind’ve undermines the whole point and MO of wikileaks, hence my ambivalence to the situation overall.
