So Japan are the current reigning unofficial football world champions. They are a few minutes away from losing to North Korea (in a 2014 qualifying match).
North Korea are about to be the unofficial world champions. AMAZING
this wouldn't have happened if my main man takashi usami were playin
It's meaningless, of course, but an interesting concept. Basically considers every match played by the reigning unofficial champions as a boxing title bout.

firstrowsports got shut down by the dept of homeland security
anybody know of anything good alternatives ? fuck, i wouldn't even mind a legit pay service.
Honesty dictates recognition of certain facts. Over the last five years, Barcelona has won two European Cups, Manchester United just one. And before that's dismissed as a reflection about clubs and not countries, in the last decade, three Spanish Clubs -- Valencia, Sevilla and Atlético -- have won the UEFA Cup/Europa League. No English club has.

I raised a point a while back that it's about time that we had a legitimate legal service offering coverage of any game to any country in the world with the monies going to a mixture of the clubs involved & the rights holders wihin. Imagine if they charged say 2 bucks a game for a good quality stream (say 3 ranging from 0.5mbps to 3mbps in quality) and we could pick & choose what to watch and when. I'd happily pay for something legitimate as long as it was properly run and feasible. This is a world where residents of many countries are all over the world and would love to see games, both on the go (ipad/android phones) and at home especially with al ot of tvs now having internet built in.
Real Madrid and Barcelona get 60% of La Liga's TV revenue between them. They can afford to spend much more on players than your Man Utd, Liverpool & Arsenal etc who have to share revenues pretty evenly between all the clubs in the division.
People can talk about Barcelona's academy, tactics etc but the money they have to spend comes in to it too. Not many clubs in the world can afford to take a $100M loss in one year Barcelona did on Ibrahimovic.
Aside from the big two in Spain the other teams have no chance of winning the league (Athletic are THIRTY TWO points behind the leaders currently) so they put all their efforts in to a competition they have some chance of winning. In contrast most English teams have played youth teams in the Europa League to keep their strongest players fresh for the weekend.

Coming from other cultures it can be hard to understand how important the sport is to people in Europe. But United's performance against Athletic is completely understandable if you put a little thought in to it.
Manchester United have been, by far, the most successful English team for the last 20 years while Manchester City haven't won a championship since the 1960s. There is true animosity between the two sets of fans, United fans mock City's lack of success and City supporters have spent years singing songs about United players dead on the runway (a reference to the Munich air disaster) and call United 'Munichs'.
Three years since the billionaire Arab bought City and they have spent more on players in those three years than United have during their ENTIRE HISTORY. So far City's millions have only given them access to a mixture of mercenaries and very good players from the second tier of teams. You sense however that if they get that first championship since the 1960s they will be able to attract the sort of players which will allow them to dominate soccer for years to come.
Imagine your bitter hated enemies that sing songs about your players dead on a runway were, thanks to billions of investment, on the verge of winning their first championship in 45 years, which surely would lead to many more. Would you rather put all your efforts in to stopping them, or in to a competition that offers little in the ways of prestige or money?
Losing to Athletic will hurt United for a few days, but losing the title to city would be FAR more painful.

What you fail to recognize here is the implications of what you're saying. So Madrid and Barca have access to more lopsided revenue streams. What does that say about the rest of the teams in La Liga? What does that say about teams in the Premier League that aren't named Man Utd, Liverpool, or Arsenal? Valencia pocketed less in TV revenues last year than West Ham did. The key point then is that 5 of the 16 teams remaining in competition in Europe are Spanish!
