I have it and you'll probably find that a lot of people here do as well - Rob Papen's synths are among the best out there in many people's opinions. I suspect that the online audio demos are featuring the factory presets, which are a few years old now, hence the reason they sound average. But, if you're looking for a great all-around synth to program your own sounds, Albino 3 is a very good choice IMO. If you're primarily a preset player, you might not love the sounds, but there are a LOT of free and commercial presets out there for Albino 3 that are more up to date.

I beta-tested the ProSounds Diversity soundset for Albino 3 before it was released last year and it's pretty good. You might want to check out the audio demos for that soundset to get a better idea of how good Albino 3 is at producing more current sounds:

Also, you might want to check out Rob Papen's Predator - I haven't used it much (other than the demo briefly), but it seems like a nice and cheaper alternative to Albino 3 (I'd still recommend Albino 3 over it though - just my opinion).

Track I am working on: http://raceriv.com/music/turn.mp3

The only synth VST I use in that is Albino 3. :)

Albino 3 is probably my all time favourite synth. As mentioned above, if you're a preset player, then they will sound outdated, but once you get to learn everything about the synth and what it can do, then you will realise just how good it is.

If I were to have a "go to" synth, Albino 3 would be it, worth every penny.

Yea, I love programming albino 3, everything is right there infront of you for the most part. There isnt any menu digging or any other screens. The modulation matrix is one of the best on any VST. Its dead simple, and thats what matters.

Albino3, Blue, & Predator are the best vsti's I've come across to date. They are very easy to understand with a little bit of knowledge of synthesis and how routing within a synth works.
You might not get impressed by the presets because they are just demo presets. The trick is in building your own sounds. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. They are very capable. The interface is nice too.

BTW, is there a tutorial for these 3 synths? I would love to know all there is to know about how to program them. I know pretty much most of it. But there are times, when I get stuck figuring out why certain button or knob is/isn't affecting the sound.

just play and learn as you go trust me this is far far better. this way you pick up on things that other people miss

Albino 3 and Predator are pretty standard subtractive synths, so you should be able to find any decent subtractive synth tutorial and apply the concepts easily to either of these two synths. Blue (one of my all-time favs) is a hybrid synth that specializes in FM synthesis. MrJiveBoJingles (sp?) has a very good thread dedicated to FM:

Also, Rob Papen himself (a master synth programmer) has been putting together a synth programming DVD for years now. According to his forum, it will be released sometime this year.
