Because I lack something remotely similar to what might be called "common sense", I sometimes spend a whole hour watching fake news shows about the politics of a country thousands of kilometres away from where I live. And, I find it awesome - mainly because politics there is not altogether different from the kind of politics we see here. Except there are far more than just two big parties, which makes elections here a more complicated mess. Still, I believe we can all relate to the inane name calling, the emotional rhetoric, the logically insane argumentation, and the hilarious gaffes inherent to politics over the globe. I know I can.
If Comedy Central is not available in your country, you can probably join me in my unhealthy habit and watch these shows online: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Nation. Originally an offshoot of the former, I've recently become more of a fan of the latter. Stephen Colbert is adorable and, whereas Jon Stewart is excellent at mocking media people mercilessly, Colbert does it by taking everything to its logical conclusion with grace and absurdity.
I know there are similar satirists abroad. UK's Charlie Brooker is probably my favourite, not least because he's like a depressed Jon Stewart on steroids. A media insider, he's not afraid of taking on the whole of media, unlike his Yankee counterparts who limit themselves to news channels most likely because of how much material they provide. I'm sure that no one will get this far and if you're reading this, you're just a search engine bot making sure you archive these paragraphs for posterity, while human users just read the title to grasp what this thread may be about, and then posting their thoughts on the programmes I cited above. I don't mind. I'm just filling up this space so I can trick Meat into thinking this is a "thoughtful" thread, reason why I'm going to, as usual, make my question in a separate section after this paragraph.
CORe version: Do you like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? Share your thoughts about them and recommend similar satirists :)
Edit: Typo.

There are a few norwegian ones that I like, but they don't really come close to Jon Stewart. I like Colbert too, but I rarely get time to watch his show, plus it seems to me like he's more us oriented whereas Jon Stewart often take up foreign matters as well. Granted I've only seen Colbert during election season so that may be why.
But yeah, If I'm gonna watch news on television it might as well be funny, as I prefer reading news.

Been watching them for quite some time now; think I probably started watching Stewart in 2002. I used to watch it quite religiously when I had more free time, but now just watch it occasionally. Like right now :p

I'm a bigger fan of Colbert because I feel like he doesn't take himself as seriously as Stewart does.

The funny thing is that for presumably fake news, it's more real than the "real" news.

I don't watch them habitually, but I like both of them.
If I had to choose, I'd go with Stewart. Simply for this:

colbert's speech at the White House Correspondance dinner (mocking bush right in front of him for 40 mins) was stuff of legend

Jon Stewart is freakin awesome. I was worried that he wasn't going to be as good as Craig Kilbourne when he took over...but he has done an AWESOME job over the years.

Oh yes. That is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in my life. Brilliant.
