An opportunity missed...?

So a friend of mine know's some guy who runs Thursday nights here in some cheesball club nearby. Anyway, my friend Cole has been tooting my horn to this guy about me spinning at the club. Problem is - this place, like many others of it's kind, don't give 2 s about the music unless it's friggin rap and R & B. I dunno if it's the same exact situation everywhere else, but as soon as anything with a 4 X 4 beat starts to play in this place, most of the dance floor clears the hell out. Back to my friend: he wants me to play there. He's been bugging the hell out of me for a demo. A demo which I know, will not be to "standards" for a place like that. So I basically just said no. I've never played in a club before. He claims to say that I just missed "the opportunity of a liftime" Which I couldn't help but to laugh at inside. Anyway, so he's pissed. My point is, did I really miss a HUGE "opportunity"?? Hell, what do I play: Prog and trance. As I imagine many other DJs on here do. Being the case, I highly doubt that any such place around here even knows what those 2 genres are. Except from "techno" that they play on the radio. Anyway, another one of my friends Luke, a fellow TA who frequents these boards says that I made the right choice. That perhaps I may have sacrficed something, in order to stick to my guns. And that it wasn't as much a "foot in the door" as Cole made it sound. Also considering the fact that Cole isn't nearly as "educated" as the people on this board are (or claim to be ;) ) Bottom line - I know I can't play my . I know I won't play cheese. It's my that I know. Did I reaaaallly blow that much of a chance?...

your thoughts...

(My apologies for a long post  )

you could have made a prog and trance demo for them to say no. that way your friend would stfu.

You should have mixed some breakbeat / trance breaks... but nah, he's just trying to convince you to play.

Well, give it a try. He'll probably say no but you won't have that "what if?" question in the back of the head ;)
