Sorry, I thought the movie was total . This same producer did another movie like this before, which was much better. This one was lame... and long as hell. Del Toro is my boy but him playing a reborn christian or whatever was too much for me. Sean Penn looked like ... and he played his character perfect. Naomi Watts was annoying as usual. She went downhill since Muholland Dr...

These movies are great since they're so re-freshing. I'll check this one out for sure.

I've been wanting to see this film for quite a while. I've heard many good things about the films direction.

Yea i saw it too but it was not horrible. Although it does fall into the usual 'solve-the-puzzle-at-the-end-as-the-beginning-catches-up' type of flick. But I guess that's what keeps you going while you're watching a 10 hr movie. I particularly hate Sean Penn as an actor and Del Torro has more credit than to feature in a film as such. And Naomi Watts...will someone please hand her a lifetime supply of tissues...all she does is cry and over dramatize a scene ffs! a good actress...not...?...:conf:

First of all, I did not comment on the acting and I'll keep it that way. I do agree that it was awfully slow and lengthy.
Neither did I comment on Del Toro's character, which made me cringe. I hate the issue anyways and thought it was absolutely unnecessary.
However, I do like the style - perplexing, meandering back and forth - it is not your usual Hollywood picture with this kind of cast. It obviously doesn't target the usual audience, nor the same rationale. Nevertheless, it's still Hollywood, so I do agree with you in part. And anyway, I am extremely selective when it comes to watching Hollywood movies, and I'd like to think that I didn't make a bad choice about this one :p
The movie of the same producer you're referring to is Amores Perros, and is an entirely different issue - and undoubtely amazing.

I thought it was o.k. Concidering what Naomi Watts character went through in the movie, she has a right to cry that much, and then some. Great performances by Penn, Watts, & Del Toro. The things which made the movie just O.K. and not better were alot of key things. There were alot of scenes that made the movie very slow when we should have been moving on with the story. There were also some scenes that should not have been there at all... Like when Watt's character went to speak to the boy who witnessed the accident. Even though the score overlapped the conversation, I think I know what she went to talk to him about. Honestly, someone greiving that much would want to go back yea, but not get a complete reenactment (like im assuming the script had her to do) especially when its something that serious. There were other scenes as well.

Now, I dont mind slow movie's. But thats when there actually moving along.. Its ok to be slow in the begining, but when it got into the middle / end, I just wanted to move on with the story. I thought that there could have been more character developement between Watt's husband and children, and them all as a family (which we didnt see at all before ...). Thats definitly essential, and being that the film was 2 hours and 25 mins, it could have been there. Another thing was that the movie built and built and built up. When we finally got to the confrontation with all three, it was like 2 minutes. That could have been more elaborated as well.

One thing I can say is that I really enjoyed the ending. The way things turned out, and the way the movie ended, couldn't have been better. There was definitly a meaning waiting to come out, and I think in some way it did. It will just take a second viewing to get that across better. The performances & direction is what overall made them movie better. Undoubtably, Alejandro González Iñárritu has talent. I just wish the dialouge and editing would have been focused on more. If it would have, the movie would not just be "o.k.", it could have been great.

have not seen it, but i assume itll be good if not interesting.

Inarritu is one of my favorite directors. his films dont always connect, but his work filmwise is amazing. check Amores Perros for his first theatrical picture. or his BWM film for an amazing look elsewhere|
