So I was talking to a co-worker today about school and grants and everything and we got in an arguement about how I thought he had more opportunity than I did to get them.

Him -
African American - Married- 3 Kids- Ex-Military
33 (I think)

Me-
Caucasian - Single - No Kids
33

All depends on how old his kids are, what his job is now, if his wife works.

You are screwed.

First, he has kids and is married, which gives him tax breaks.

And he was in the military, which makes him more attractive to employers.

So even before we get to race, he's a rung up...

So I should have learned to not use birth control when I was younger so I could have better opportunities later?

well, its quite possible his kids are cokeheads... in which case all those tax breaks means cuz he has to go score blow from the local dealer.

Im not talking about federal money- Im talking private grants.

Are you one of these "I’m not a racist, but I don’t want to concede the perks my people have historically received” people?

The way I see it is...

Him -
Married- 3 Kids- Ex-Military
33

You-
Single - No Kids
33

I see him as being more responsible, with a sense of hard work and duty, because he has a family to take care of and a military background (which is huge with employers and commendable by almost everyone else). It also seems like he has the impetus to do more with the available grants.

Race is just a side issue, you're making it the focal point.

Actually- I never focused on it- you just did.

Is it responsible to have kids when you really cant afford it? He makes just as much as I do- Im not saying he's a worthless idiot or anything- my point with him was he just has more open to him. He said I had just as much open to him as he did. Im not trying to claim anything racist about it at all.

Then why did you title the thread "equality" and why did you make the effort of pointing out your races???
xKaoSx
I simply stated Age/MaritalStatus/Race

You focused on race
It's funny how people just jump to conclusions about stuff like that.
