for some reason windows xp never remembers my preferred settings
when i reboot my files will be displayed as tiles (big) instead of icons
it makes my folders "music folders" meaning i can arrange them by artist, year, duration etc. problem is it does this with nearly all my folders (no music) and it removes the option to sort by date, which is what i want
i dont want any music folders

is there some options somewhere that i'm missing to make this thing remember how i want it displayed?
i currently have to open the "choose details" menu of each folder to enable the date arrangement, and when i go back, its back to being a music folder

i just want to be able to arrange files by name, type, size and date
and no stupid icon in the folder background

Right click on my computer, select "Explore."

In the title bar, you will see "Tools." From the drop down menu, select "folder options."

In Folder Options, you set your default display preferences.

While everyone's in a helping mood, I've got a question. How do I get all my applications (Internet Explorer in particular) to open up in full screen every time?? When I choose to open IE from the start menu, it opens fine (full screen). But whenever I click a link on MSN or on a website and it opens a new window, the window is never full screen. How do I get it to always open in full screen??

It's been bugging me for donkeys.

i've been in there, but i still can't get it to do what i want
i selected "remember window settings" (something like that) and it still doesn't remember what i select

i never managed to make IE open full screen from other apps, but it remembered the size the window you last had
so i opened a window from msn and resized the window to be almost full screen, closed it, and next time it opened at that size
not perfect but better

Open the window that's small. Then use the arrows at the sides and tops to expand the window to the size you want. Then go to file-exit. When you open the window again, it should be the size you set it at.

ok, after right clicking on my computer and selecting explore, find a folder (i.e. my music) and first, make the contents of the folder view the way you want them to view. For me, I want to see details, so I select details. The folder should view as you select in the right side of the window.

Next. What details do I want to view? I personally want to view 4 details (name, type, size, and date last modified). You can right click on the little title bar that shows you the contents of the folder and select or deselect exactly what you want to view (in my case only name, type, size, and modified).

Now, how do I want the contents displayed? By date. So I click onto the word "modified." Hmmm. If it's not the order I want, click again.
You either want the contents displayed from earliest to latest date or from latest to earliest. If you click on modified and it shows earliest to latest, just click again and it will revert to latest to earliest.

Okay. Now the folder selected is how you want all of your folders to open.

Return to Tools and Select Folder Options. Go to the View Tab. Tell it you want the OS to display all folders "Like Current Folder."

It will.

Probably when you selected "Like Current Folder" initially, you didn't have a folder selected that was displaying as you wanted prior to going to Folder Options.

Hehe, yeah I got that much. :p

I mean I want it to be proper full screen, you know, like when you click on the button next to the X in the top right corner. It's so damn annoying having to click the maximize button every time a new window opens.
