well.. i think that trance music is all about emotion.. and as soon as someone sells out like atb, he is no longer doing it for the love, just the money.. so by deffintion ATB could be "trance"..

..more like electronic..

same goes for hip hop. its a culture. and as soon as someone like jay z starts making cheezy songs for more money, its not about "hip hop" any more.. so no i wouldn't consider jay z "hip hop"

..more like rap..

electronic music is all styles of electronic music: trance, house, DnB, ambient, etc, etc...not just something where money's involved. and rap and hip hop can almost be considered 2 different things. jay z is generally more of a rap artist, but thats not because he 'sold out,' whatever that means. if thats true tiesto has sold out because he is so popular in Europe, or PvD even. but bakc to what i was talking about, hip hop is more like outkast, tlc, even undreground groups like Talib Kweli, Mos Def(sorta) and Dilated Peoples. Rap has slowly dissapeared as a genre, but featured artist like 2pac, Biggie and Eminem. All these people make music and get paid for it, some are better than others, etc. But how have they sold out? Because they made something that was liked by many people? Seems like they just make good music...late/

its totally obvious that jay z has changed his style to suit the masses.. as do most rappers

..also you missed my point..

trance and hip hop are more than just genres, there like "attitudes" if you will..

and just because someone makes alot of money doesn't mean they have sold out, or are commercial, as long as the artist stays true to themselves.. as have PVD and TIESTO..

okay.. will a MOD please delete theis thread, its going nowhere...

..faST!

quick, delete the thread before i respond!

actually i have to disagree with you here. i understand what you are saying, but who are you to say that a person has 'changed' to suit the masses without knowing them? and tiesto has been playing stuff oakie was playing years ago, so if its just by song choice, then he must be selling out too. another thing, if a DJ plays to the crowd , as PvD does so well, then isnt he selling out too? yes, hes playing songs that he likes, and define his style, but the popularity is still determined by the fans. personally the only artists i feel 'sell out' are those like Britney or Nsync, that while they may 'write' their own songs now, launched their careers spewing out stuff that others had made for them. sometimes the most talented artists arent those that stay underground or refuse to acknowledge that they too, may have made decisions for money; its those that know what to do and how to not just make a living (or a few bucks) in the music industry, but to create music that appeals to millions of people, rather than just a few who think that anything popular has been 'sold out' and therefore cant possibly be good...late/
