Hehe I remember reading about this a while back? Didn't it work the first few times round? I though they figured it would be impossible in the end?

well, the last attempt REALLY SUCKED. i mean REALLY. About 1/2 the nation was filled with clouds, only allowing the far east coast to participate. And no, there was no visible glow on the moon. but tonite, we must all get together, use our Captain Planet rings, and point at the sky.

confusion? well it's just a simple art project involving you, a laser pointer and the moon. At 8pm PACIFIC, the whole nation will shine a laser pointer at the moon, attempting to create a red mark on the moon.
8pm pacific, and the rest of you follow accordingly(11pm eastern)

have fun!

can laser pointers go that far??

sweet...and you thought they were just good for annoying cats....

how many people actually know about this. I don't think they're bee enough people to do it but i'll do it anyway
Miss Proximus
I wonder if that's even possible? Can the lasers get that far? Or is it just that they colour the ozon layer? Or is the ozon layer gone above the USA? :D

Explain!!!!! :)

i explained this in the last thread im sure, someone said i was wrogn adn that laser beams never spread. naturalyl i laughed, and corrected them with a little story about men on the moon. :) adios.

I don't live in the states, but I think it won't work.
Let me do a bit of maths here. If you point your laser pointer on the moon the distance to go is about 380 000 km. If you only point your laser five kilometres away the red light point it produces won't be visible! This has to do with the lenses inside your pointer. So you think you point it at the moon, but the light it produces gets lost in space. Think a bit about it. If your theory with the laser pointer would be right then a car light would be visible from the moon. It sounds good, but in my eyes it won't work. If you're interested in I could give other examples why this is - in my eyes - impossible. Sorry ppl, but I can't believe it would work...

well...

did it work?

:)

i doubt it

Thanks to the thousands, perhaps millions, worldwide who participated in the two attempts. I have been touched by the way the idea has resonated with people of many countries, cultures, and faiths. In this crazy and too-often ugly world to have something which brings people together to share an artistic dream is a rare gift, and I thank all of you for making it possible. It has been a phenomenal artistic success, even though we did not accomplish the technical aspect of the project. Indeed, as many people said, that was almost beside the point of the deeper goals of the project..

If you participated in either of the attempts, and have not yet sent me a report, please do so. Or if you have further thoughts on the project that you would like to share, I'd like to have them. I plan on documenting the project with your comments.

Quite a number of people have written asking me to schedule other attempts, or make this an annual or even monthly event. At this point I am not planning any such further attempts, and need to turn my attention to other projects. But if someone else wants to take this on, please contact me in the next week or so.
