computer problems

I think my computer is dying. For the last while(2 weeks or so) it has been periodically making this horrible noise, like a motor dying, so I thought it was the fan. Well I cleaned the fan of dust and dog hair, and guess what?
Noise is still there, so finally last night, while it was screaming @ me, I got down on my hands and knees, and put my head back behind it...the noise is not coming from the fan type area in the back of the puter. In fact it almosts seems like it is coming from the botom of it.

So any clues as to what is wrong? Should I just take it back to get it checked out???(Its about 1 year old) Help me!

Its the FAN. Always a problem with comp. Doesnt help if you clean it. You just have to by a new 1.

Might be your HD. There's a computer here at school that makes this kind of weird whining sound every once and a while, and I'm told that it's the hard drive. Couldn't say for sure without seeing/hearing it for myself though.

have you checked the internal fan on the processor? sometimes a cable can get caught in it and make a really ed up sounding noiz.. if thats the problem, just get sum plastic cable ties and tie all the loose stuff to the chassis :)

and how would I go about doing that? shut down, unplug, remove casing and take a peek inside? Or is it best left to pros?-->be warned, I could barely install my own Burner

yeah, just shut it down, whip the side off and check the area round the processor fan is clear of wires and general obstructions :) then if there's anything that looks too close for comfort, just stick it out of the way with some tape or something.. hope this helps

It's definitely the HD.
The same thing happened to me 4 months ago. It was a an old 6,4 Gb HD. Luckily I had insurance and got it exchanged for a better one, 20 GB, for free. I thought it was the FAn, but hell it wasn't. So I did backups in time, before it started crashing every 5 minutes. Let this be a warning, and do backups while you still can.
