How does E-Bay work?

I found a really good auction on Ebay.de, and the bidding ends in seven hours or so - the problem is that this item isn't shipped outside Germany. I do have a German friend who studied in Sweden, but I only has his ICQ contact. He told me that he could order this item to his place and then send it to me - but he's not online right now and I don't have his address, and I'm afraid the bidding will end befor he gets back online.
What I'd like to know, since I've never bought anything from E-bay, is how the whole process works? Can I bid at the auction and leave a shipping address afterwards? Or are the items being shipped to the address on my profile? (In this case they can't - appearently) Can I even bid on an auction that's outside my country, since this item isn't being shipped outside Germany, or are only people with German E-bay accounts able to bid at this particular auction?
Sorry if these questions come out as dumb, but I don't know how this works. :)

Most auctions usually have geographical restrictions set by the seller which in theory the bidder cannot get around.
But usually if you email before auction closing you can sometimes make an agreement with the seller for him to ship outside the designated countries, some accept, others are d*cks about it.
You also have to take into accounts fine print in the auction like:
Shipping to confirmed paypal adress only ( meaning the seller will only ship to the adress the paypal account is linked to ).
I would suggest bidding, if you win the auction email the seller and explain the situation and try to have him ship directly to you ( if that's what you want ). If he refuses see about getting it paid for your german friend with his paypal account ( but the auction will remain with your ebay account ). |

I see...thanks for the help.
I've made a bid on this item now, but it says that somebody has made a higher maximum bid! wtf is this? Why is there a maximum bid that isn't being displayed? I think it's unfair..I've raised my bids directly afterwards and there is still somebody who has a higher bid. I don't get it - what's the point of auctions if you can't see what the current maximum bid is? |
