Recently, when watching a widescreen DVD on a Widescreen TV, I noticed there are still black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. I though that those bars would be gone since I was watching on a WS TV.
Why are the bars still there? |

*edit* actually yeah it was, the display functions I get, Widescreen, Zoom & Normal, and i had it on Widescreen. |

not all DVDs are formated to 16:9
1.78:1 The dimensions of a widescreen television set; roughly equivalent to 16:9.
1.85:1 Popular aspect ratio for many movies.
2.35:1 Another popular aspect ratio for movies.
so yeah |

Right, i know the aspect ratios, I just want to know what's the purpose of making a Widescreen TV if you're still going to get the black bars when watching a widescreen DVD? |
